"This is an edition and translation of an account of the Owl Sacred Pack which was written in the Meskwaki language by the owner of the pack, Alfred Kiyana, to accompany its transfer to Truman Michelson in 1914. Meskwaki is an Algonquian language now spoken in Tama County, Iowa... Kiyana was a superb story-teller, whose skill in employing the Meskwaki language can only be fully appreciated by repeated study of his texts. He attended school for only three months, and that was by running away to Kansas, and his English was rudimentary. He died in the Spanish Influenza pandemic in November of 1918."-- Introduction.
