MUSAC presents a new project by the Canary Islands artist Carmela Garcia, hailed as one of the outstanding photographers in the Spanish and international art scene. Her ongoing inquiry into gender and identity, memory and space, takes here the form of an imaginary cartography of collective identity which takes us back to the rive guache of Paris between the wars. This exhibition springs from the aratist's thorough historical research to retrieve the reality of a group of wome whose lives and actions vitalised the social and cultural life of 1920s and 1930s Paris. The past merges with the present in this reconstruction and reinterpretation of female identities, and their re-association with the women and personalities of today.--Afterword.

A través de la fotografía, el vídeo y la instalación, Carmela García plantea un mundo nuevo que deconstruye lo que la sociedad patriarcal ha establecido sobre lo que las mujeres son y deben ser.La exposición se desarrolla en cinco espacios temáticos con cinco utopías vividas por mujeres arriesgadas, inteligentes y transgresoras a través de los proyectos Chicas, deseos y ficción (1998), las series fotográficas Paraísos (2002-2005), Escenarios (2007), Casting (2007-2008) y I Want to Be (2006-2008) , la proyección Espacio de silencio (2004) y la nueva producción audiovisual Seres equívocos (2020).
