At the interface between art and dress, St. Gallen offers a great number of creative themes that have been assembled and for the first time shown in a museal collaboration. Akris, in the Textile Museum; Dresscode, in the Historical Museum; Lifestyle, in the Art Museum; and Modus in the Neue Kunst Halle - these exhibitions constitute a co-operative project on the theme of art and fashion. Schnittpunkt: Art and Dress St. Gallen is not only the collaboration of four separate museums, it is also an exclusive co-operation between the St. Gallen textile industry and the participating artists. The book includes a medley of theoretical writings (mainly in German), in the chapter Fashion / Theory.

The Austrian artist Melli Ink (b. Innsbruck, 1972; lives and works in Zurich and Berlin) creates vitreous worlds that blend beauty and cruelty, dread and fragility in a seductive fusion. The works are based on extensive series of drawings and executed in close collaboration with glassblowers, whose traditional techniques Melli Ink reinterprets for contemporary art. They feature references to art history as well as film, music, and themes from folklore, distant echoes of the artist's Tyrolean roots. In earlier groups of works, Ink, who studied stage design at the Central Saint Martins College of ARt, London, closely examined Albrecht Durer's "Horsemen of the Apocalypse" or Erns Haeckel's "Art Forms in Nature." In recent years, she has also analyzed and interpreted the imaginaries of Hieronymus Bosch and Joan Miro. This monograph is the first to offer comprehensive insight into the highly expressive visual universe of Melli Ink's art. It also illustrates her playful engagement with various genres, including sculpture and installation art as well as drawing and performance. With an esasy by Christoph Doswald, a conversation between Thomas Kiesewetter and the artist, and a preface by Uta Grosenick.

Berlin-based artist and musician Carsten Nicolai, born in 1965, is one of very few contemporary artists who convincingly work in the conflict zone between art, science and sound. Equally respected in the art world and the electronic music community, his works lay open the functional principles of codification, self-organization and perception so that the hand of the artist recedes and the classical notion of an oeuvre is put into question. Drawing on sounds available in our everyday environment, Nicolai creates soundscapes and installations redolent with clicks and blips from telephones, faxes and other technological detritus: he creates an elementary, universal language that eludes rationality, requesting instead to simply be perceived by the individual. This survey spans from Nicolai's well-known 1997 Documenta X project, "Infinity"--in which 72 short audio works were discretely embedded throughout Kassel's public spaces--to new pieces produced for a recent solo exhibition at Zurich's Haus Konstruktiv.
