The 1991 International Conference on Information Processing in Medical Imaging (IPMI '91) is the twelfth in the series and was held in Wye College, part of the University of London. The purpose of IPMI is to provide a forum for the detailed examination of methodological issues in computing which are at the heart of advances in medical image formation, manipulation and interpretation. This volume presents the proceedings of IPMI '91. The venue was situated in one of L- don's ?nest locations, adjacent to landmarks such as The Royal Albert Hall and the Science, NaturalHistory and Victoria andAlbert Museums,with Hyde Park just a short walk away. Over the last decade, the MICCAI conferences have become a premier - ternational event, with papers of very high standard addressing the multid- ciplinary ?elds of biomedical image computing, computer-assisted intervention and medical robotics. The two-volume set LNCS 5761 and LNCS 5762 constitute the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2009, held in London, UK, in September 2009.
