This reprint of the two-volume of edition of 1834 is still the most complete & compact edition of the works of Jonathan Edwards (1703-58). (The Yale edition, intended to be definitive, is still in progress.) Edwards remains one of the most important writers of eighteenth century colonial America & the breadth of his interests as a pastor, revival preacher, educationalist, theologian, philosopher & missionary to the native Americans is reflected in these volumes. Edwards was also the first President of the College of New Jersey (later Princeton College). The writings contained here include Edwards' works related to the revival in New England such as his Narrative of the Surprising Work of God, TheDistinguishing Marks of a Work of the Spirit of God, Thoughts on the Revival of Religion in New England & A Treatise Concerning Religious Affections, his great works of philosophical & polemical theology, including The Freedom of the Will, The Doctrine of Original Sin, The Nature of True Virtue & The End for which God Created the World, his History of the Work of Redemption, sermons on manysubjects & the Life of David Brainerd.
