On behalf of the PROFES Organizing Committee we are proud to present the proce- th ings of the 10 International Conference on Product Focused Software Process - provement (PROFES 2009), held in Oulu, Finland. Since the first conference in 1999, the conference has established its place in the software engineering community as a respected conference that brings together participants from academia and industry. The roots of PROFES are in professional software process improvement motivated by product and service quality needs. The conference addresses both the solutions found in practice as well as relevant research results from academia. To ensure that PROFES retains its high quality and focus on the most relevant research issues, the conference has actively maintained close collaboration with industry and sub- quently widened its scope to the research areas of collaborative and agile software development. A special focus for 2009 was placed on software business to bridge research and practice in the economics of software engineering. This enabled us to cover software development in a more comprehensive manner and tackle one of the most important current challenges identified by the software industry and software research community – namely, the shift of focus from “products” to “services. ” The current global economic downturn emphasizes the need for new methods and so- tions for fast and business-oriented development of products and services in a gl- ally distributed environment.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Product Focused Software Process Improvement, PROFES 2005, held in Oulu, Finland in June 2005. The 44 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected and constitute a balanced mix of academic and industrial aspects. The papers are organized in topical sections on software process improvement, software quality, mobile and wireless applications, requirements engineering, industrial experiences, process analysis, process modeling, SPI methods and tools, experimental software engineering, validation and verification, agile methods, and measurement.

KI 2008 was the 31st Annual German Conference on Arti?cial Intelligence held September 23–26 at the University of Kaiserslautern and the German Research Center for Arti?cial Intelligence DFKI GmbH in Kaiserslautern, Germany. The conference series started in 1975 with the German Workshop on AI (GWAI), which took place in Bonn, and represents the ?rst forum of its type for the German AI Community. Over the years AI has become a major ?eld in c- puter scienceinGermanyinvolvinga numberof successfulprojects thatreceived much international attention. Today KI conferences are international forums where participants from academia and industry from all over the world meet to exchange their recent research results and to discuss trends in the ?eld. Since 1993 the meeting has been called the “Annual German Conference on Arti?cial Intelligence,” designated by the German acronym KI. This volume contains the papers selected out of 77 submissions, including a number of submissions from outside German-speaking countries. In total, 15 submissions (19%) were accepted for oral and 30 (39%) for poster presentation. Oralpresentationsattheconferenceweresingletrack. Becauseofthis,thechoice of presentation form (oral, poster) was based on how well reviews indicated that the paper would ?t into one or the other format. The proceedings allocate the same space to both types of papers. In addition, we selected six papers that show high application potential - scribing systems or prototypical implementations of innovative AI technologies. They are also included in this volume as two-page extended abstracts.

The Third International Conference on Product Focused Software Process Improvement (PROFES 2001) continued the success of the PROFES’99 and PROFES 2000 conferences. PROFES 2001 was organized in Kaiserslautern, Germany, September 10 13, 2001. The PROFES conference has its roots in the PROFES Esprit project (http://www.ele.vtt.fi/profes/), but it quickly evolved into a full fledged general purpose conference in 1999 and since then it has gained wide spread international popularity. As in previous years, the main theme of PROFES 2001 was professional software process improvement (SPI) motivated by product and service quality needs. SPI is facilitated by software process assessment, software measurement, process modeling, and technology transfer and has become a practical tool for quality software engineering and management. The conference addresses both the solutions found in practice as well as relevant research results from academia. The purpose of the conference is to bring to light the most recent findings and results in the area and to stimulate discussion between the researchers, experienced professionals, and technology providers for SPI.
