In the fall of 2000, Elyn Zimmerman was an artist-in-residence at an artist's colony in Vermont, where she took a group of photographs recording the passage of water through a nearby shallow stream bed. The rocks and pebbles underneath the water's surface, together with the play of light and shadow overhead, broke the surface of the water into cacophonous patches of black and white. This play of rhythmic and turbulent patterns is what Zimmerman managed to capture in the drawings she made based on these photographs, drawings which continue her black-and-white vocabulary but which reveal an emotion and spontaneous gesture yet unseen in her work.

This richly illustrated publication presents the reconstruction of the history of the Pharaohs and their people through original documents and observations by some of the most famous Egyptologists of the present and the past. The authors trace the history of the spread of the myth of Egypt and the birth of Egyptology and describe the greatest archaeological discoveries between the first decades of the nineteenth century and those of the early twentieth century, to the gold of Tutankhamen and the silver of the Pharaohs of Tanis. A large section of the book retraces the history of the first photographers in Egypt, the first aerial photographs, photographic experimentation and the spread of photographic techniques applied to archaeology. A highly unique chapter is dedicated to Egypts luck in modern culture: from painting to the decorative arts, to satire and the spread of Egyptomania in twentieth-century magazines. The publication also contains a glimpse into the future: computer applications and modern methods for preserving the archival, photographic and bibliographic heritage. In May of 2010, Gagosian Gallery presented the most significant gathering of late Claude Monet paintings in New York in more than thirty years. The catalogue for the exhibition that the New York Times described as "a gorgeous 'where on earth did this come from?' show," focuses on important subjects drawn from the artist's gardens at Giverny. Nymphéas, Le pont japonais, and L'allée de rosiers are among the most treasured paintings of Monet's long and prodigious career. Reproduced in luscious color are early Nymphéas that were first shown in 1909 at the Galerie Durand-Ruel to great critical acclaim. From these delicate, poetic paintings follow the more experimental post-1914 paintings, which were never exhibited during the artist's lifetime. In addition to the 27 sumptuous colour plates, the catalogue is illustrated by numerous colour images of paintings, as well as black-and-white historical photos. It includes a new essay by Paul Hayes Tucker, one of the foremost authorities on Monet and curator of the exhibition; an extract from Michel Butor's seminal 1962 text, "Monet, or the World Turned Upside Down" and a detailed chronology of Monet's life and exhibitions while at Giverny written by leading Monet scholar Charles Stuckey. Also included is a compendium of historical reviews that have been translated from their original French, Italian, or German language and which have been assembled for the first time by Claire Durand-Ruel Snollaerts.
