Das Heilige Grab in Jerusalem und seine Repliken sind zentrale Erinnerungsorte der christlichen Kultur und Frömmigkeit. Seine Besonderheit besteht darin, dass es keinen Körper enthält und dass auch in diesem Umstand die Auferstehungshoffnung der Christen gründet. Heilige Gräber und ihr Kult sind jedoch nicht nur Bestandteil vieler anderer Religionskulturen; man findet sie auch in der säkularisierten Republik und in derjenigen Staatsform, die eine klassenlose Gesellschaft anstrebt. Namhafte Kunsthistoriker, Literatur- und Religionswissenschaftler analysieren Beispiele aus Christentum und Judentum und säkularisierte Heroengräber. Der Band veröffentlicht eine Auswahl von Beiträgen aus zwei Tagungen, die im Begleitprogramm der Ausstellung »Sehnsucht nach Jerusalem. Wege zum Heiligen Grab« im Kloster Stift zum Heiligengrabe in den Jahren 2010 und 2011 stattfanden.

The object analyzed here is the custom of the festival of relics (ostensio reliquiarum), at which the relics of a church were publicly displayed. On the basis of an examination of 24 late medieval relic festivals in the Roman-German regnum, the liturgical-ceremonial patterns of these festivals and their functions are presented, especially in the area of the system of indulgences and the representation of governing (especially the formation of residences).

The Congress hosted 611 registered participants from 38 countries. Its aim was to be an international forum for scholars and demands of Near Eastern Archaeology. From the four sections of the Congress, [Vol. I: 1) The Reconstruction of Environment. Natural Resources and Human Interrelation through Time, 2) Visual Communication ISBN 978-3-447-05703-5], Vol. II: 3) Social and Cultural Transformation: The Archaeology of Transitional Periods and Dark Ages, 4) Archaeological Field Reports (Excavations, Surveys, Conservation) Together these volumes unite 77 contributions on about 1100 pages. They are arranged according to the sections. The rst three will be introduced by the key lectures which were given by Tony Wilkinson, Winfried Orthmann, and Roger Matthews. The resumes of these sections were provided by Wendy Matthews, Dominik Bonatz, and Diederik J.W. Meijer. The contributions cover many aspects of the main themes through time, from the Neolithic to the Hellenistic / Roman period, and offer interdisciplinary approaches to complex archaeological problems.

Geburtstag wird mit Hartmut Kuhne ein Wissenschaftler geehrt, der durch seine langjahrige Lehr- und Ausgrabungstatigkeit zahlreiche Schuler im In- und Ausland hervorgebracht und sich grosse Verdienste um die Archaologie Syriens, aber auch Anatoliens erworben hat.Die von renommierten Archaologen und Philologen verfassten Beitrage zu den "Fundstellen" tragen dieser Lebensleistung Rechnung. Der chronologische Rahmen reicht vom Neolithikum Westsyriens (K. Bartl) und Sudwestanatoliens (E. Abay) bis zur Romanisierung Ostsyriens(A. Oettel) und der spatantiken Besiedlung des Tell Feheriye (N. Ritter). Einen Schwerpunkt bildet die mittel- und neuassyrische bzw. spathethitische Zeit. Dabei werden bau- und kunstgeschichtliche Fragen zur Architektur von Hama (P. Matthiae), Karkamis (M. Pucci), Tall Seh Hamad (A. Kose) und Kar Tukulti-Ninurta (A.
