This treatise gives an exposition of the functional analytical approach to quasilinear parabolic evolution equations, developed to a large extent by the author during the last 10 years. This approach is based on the theory of linear nonautonomous parabolic evolution equations and on interpolation-extrapolation techniques. It is the only general method that applies to noncoercive quasilinear parabolic systems under nonlinear boundary conditions. The present first volume is devoted to a detailed study of nonautonomous linear parabolic evolution equations in general Banach spaces. It contains a careful exposition of the constant domain case, leading to some improvements of the classical Sobolevskii-Tanabe results. It also includes recent results for equations possessing constant interpolation spaces. In addition, systematic presentations of the theory of maximal regularity in spaces of continuous and Hölder continuous functions, and in Lebesgue spaces, are given. It includes related recent theorems in the field of harmonic analysis in Banach spaces and on operators possessing bounded imaginary powers. Lastly, there is a complete presentation of the technique of interpolation-extrapolation spaces and of evolution equations in those spaces, containing many new results.

This third volume concludes our introduction to analysis, wherein we ?nish laying the groundwork needed for further study of the subject. As with the ?rst two, this volume contains more material than can treated in a single course. It is therefore important in preparing lectures to choose a suitable subset of its content; the remainder can be treated in seminars or left to independent study. We hope that its numerous glimpses into more advanced analysis will arouse curiosity and so invite students to further explore the beauty and scope of this branch of mathematics. Analysis III

This volume contains a selection of invited lectures and contributed papers which were delivered at the Sixth International Conference on Navier-Stokes Equations and Related Nonlinear Problems, held in Palanga, Lithuania, 22-29 May 1997. While the emphasis was on the mathematical foundation of fluid dynamics, related contributions on nonlinear and numerical analysis were discussed as well. The topics covered include: incompressible fluids described by Navier-Stokes equations, compressible fluids, non-Newtonian fluids, free boundary problems, equations from thermo- and magnetohydrodynamcis, asymptotic analysis, stability, and related problems of nonlinear and numerical analysis.

The aim of this proceeding is addressed to present recent developments of the mathematical research on the Navier-Stokes equations, the Euler equations and other related equations. In particular, we are interested in such problems as: 1) existence, uniqueness and regularity of weak solutions2) stability and its asymptotic behavior of the rest motion and the steady state3) singularity and blow-up of weak and strong solutions4) vorticity and energy conservation5) fluid motions around the rotating axis or outside of the rotating body6) free boundary problems7) maximal regularity theorem and other abstract theorems for mathematical fluid mechanics.

Recent Developments of Mathematical Fluid Mechanics

The series is devoted to the publication of monographs and high-level textbooks in mathematics, mathematical methods and their applications. Apart from covering important areas of current interest, a major aim is to make topics of an interdisciplinary nature accessible to the non-specialist. The works in this series are addressed to advanced students and researchers in mathematics and theoretical physics. In addition, it can serve as a guide for lectures and seminars on a graduate level. The series de Gruyter Studies in Mathematics was founded ca. 30 years ago by the late Professor Heinz Bauer and Professor Peter Gabriel with the aim to establish a series of monographs and textbooks of high standard, written by scholars with an international reputation presenting current fields of research in pure and applied mathematics. While the editorial board of the Studies has changed with the years, the aspirations of the Studies are unchanged. In times of rapid growth of mathematical knowledge carefully written monographs and textbooks written by experts are needed more than ever, not least to pave the way for the next generation of mathematicians.
