These proceedings contain the 25 papers that were accepted for presentation at the Eighth Information Hiding Conference, held July 10-12, 2006 in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The paperswere selectedby the ProgramCommittee from more than 70 submissions on the basis of their novelty, originality, and scienti?c merit. We aregratefulto allauthorswho submitted their workforconsideration. The papers were divided into ten sessions [Watermarking, Information Hiding and Networking, Data Hiding in Unusual Content (2 sessions), Fundamentals, Software Protection, Steganalysis, Steganography (2 sessions), and Subliminal Channels], showing the breadth of research in the?eld. This year was an imp- tant one in the history of the IHW: "Workshop" was dropped from the name to show that the?eld has matured andthat the conference has become the premier venue for the dissemination of new results. The conference employed a double-blind reviewing process. Each paper was examined by at least three reviewers. Papers submitted by ProgramCommittee members were held to a higher standard. We relied on the advice of outside colleagues and would like to extend our thanks for their contribution to the paper selection process and their dedication to excellence in research.

This book documents the R&D outcome of the PRIME Project, an R&D project partially funded by the European Union’s Sixth Framework Programme and the Swiss Federal Office for Education and Science. PRIME has focused on privacy-enhancing identity management techniques and systems to support users’ sovereignty over their personal privacy and enterprises’ privacy-compliant data processing. During the course of four years, the project has involved over a hundred researchers and professionals from 22 major European academic and industrial organizations conducting R&D work in areas relevant to digital privacy. The book presents 28 detailed chapters organized in five parts: Introductory summary, legal, social, and economic aspects, realization of privacy-enhancing user-centric identity management, exploitation of PRIME results for applications, conclusions drawn and an outlook on future work. As the first coherent presentation of the topic, this book will serve as a valuable source of reference and inspiration for anybody working on digital privacy.

These are the proceedings of Eurocrypt 2004, the 23rd Annual Eurocrypt C- ference. The conference was organized by members of the IBM Zurich Research Laboratory in cooperation with IACR, the International Association for Cr- tologic Research. Theconferencereceivedarecordnumberof206submissions,outofwhichthe program committee selected 36 for presentation at the conference (three papers were withdrawn by the authors shortly after submission). These proceedings contain revised versions of the accepted papers. These revisions have not been checked for correctness, and the authors bear full responsibility for the contents of their papers. The conference program also featured two invited talks. The ?rst one was the 2004 IACR Distinguished Lecture given by Whit?eld Di?e. The second invited talk was by Ivan Damg? ard who presented “Paradigms for Multiparty Computation. ” The traditional rump session with short informal talks on recent results was chaired by Arjen Lenstra. The reviewing process was a challenging task, and many good submissions had to be rejected. Each paper was reviewed independently by at least three members of the program committee, and papers co-authored by a member of the program committee were reviewed by at least six (other) members. The individual reviewing phase was followed by profound and sometimes lively d- cussions about the papers, which contributed a lot to the quality of the ?nal selection. Extensive comments were sent to the authors in most cases.
