Und wie dazwischen vermittelt wird, durch Sprache, Liebe, Kunst ... Von der Suche nach der Grenze zwischen zwei Menschen ist Katya Apekina zurückgekehrt: mit einem Roman, der Grenzen verwischt. Edie und Mae sind Schwestern. Die Mutter der beiden hat versucht sich umzubringen, und nun werden sie weggeschafft, aus ihrem Heimatkaff in Louisiana nach New York, aus der Obhut einer labilen Fantastin zum weltberühmten Schriftstellervater, der die Familie vor Jahren verließ. Für Edie bedeutet die neue Umgebung einen unverzeihlichen Verrat, für Mae die langersehnte Möglichkeit der Befreiung. Schnell kommt es zum Bruch.
