En el caso de El libro del Tao, fue el azar ―o algo más― quien decidió su llegada. Entre los títulos posibles que aparecían como una broma interna al final de nuestros libros, figuraba el Tao. Un día, Calpurnio nos llamó para decirnos que este era «poco menos que el libro de su vida», y que quería hacerlo «sí o sí». Así comenzó todo.

Lo que siguió fue una sorpresa continua: el autor de Cuttlas se convirtió en un estudioso meticuloso del mundo clásico, exploró iconografías, tonalidades, tradiciones, borró y rehízo lanzas y colores, y acabó sumergiéndose ―con la misma entrega― en la realidad inasible del Tao.

Calpurnio pasó los últimos meses de su vida ilustrando este libro. Su compañera, Ana García, escribió tras su muerte: «Ilustrar El libro del Tao le proporcionó la paz y la tranquilidad necesarias para afrontar su enfermedad y su muerte. No tenía miedo. Nada importaba. Me dio fuerza también a mí. Fue casi providencial».

The pUrpOSE! of this conference was not to define the two areas that are being bound, which might be a well nigh impossible proposition.
