Im Jahr 2182 registriert man auf der Erde im 22 Lichtjahre entfernten System Gliese667C die Strahlungssignatur einer gewaltigen Explosion technischen Ursprungs. Ein Jahrhundert später startet ein Raumschiff zu seinem hundertjährigen Flug in dieses System, an Bord sechs menschliche Klone im Kälteschlaf. Frank Steinweg ist ein Transnaut, ein ausgebildeter Astralreisender. Sobald das Expeditionsschiff sein Ziel erreicht, werden er und fünf weitere Transnauten sich per Geistreise von der Erde in ihre Klonkörper an Bord transferieren und das Zielsystem erforschen. This volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series contains the set of papers accepted for publication at the colocated QofIS/ICQT 2002 workshops, i.e. the 3rd COST Action 263 International Workshop on Quality of future Internet Services (QofIS) and the 2nd International Workshop on Internet Charging and QoS Technology (ICQT), both of which took place at the ETH Zric h, Switzerland, hosted by the Computer Engineering and Networking Laboratory, TIK. QofIS 2002 was the third in a series of highly successful technical workshops and meetings on Internet services within the framework of the COST Action 263 Q uality of future Internet Services , following previous events in Berlin, Germany in 2000 and in Coimbra, Portugal in 2001. ICQT 2002 was the follow-up to a vivid and extremely well-attended workshop on Internet economics and charging technology that took place within the framework of the Annual Meeting of the German Society for Computer Science (GI) and the Austrian Computer Society in 2001 in Vienna, Austria.

From QoS Provisioning to QoS Charging

Im Jahr 2182 registriert man auf der Erde einen offenbar technisch erzeugten Strahlungsausbruch im 22 Lichtjahre entfernten System Gliese667C. Ein Jahrhundert nach diesem Ereignis startet die Spirit of hope, das erste bemannte Interstellar-Raumschiff der Menschheit, zu ihrem hundertjährigen Flug in dieses System, an Bord sechs menschliche Klone im Kälteschlaf. Frank Steinweg ist ein Lazanaut, ein Astralreisender, der im Laufe seines langen Lebens schon mehrmals den Körper gewechselt hat und dafür jedesmal sterben musste, um wie Lazarus wiederaufzuerstehen. Sobald das Expeditionsschiff sein Ziel erreicht haben wird, sollen er und fünf weitere Lazanauten sich per Geistreise von der Erde in ihre Klonkörper an Bord transferieren und das Zielsystem erforschen. Was sie dort erwartet, ist nicht nur ein erdähnlicher Planet, sondern vor allem ein kosmischer Konflikt, der ihr Weltbild erschüttern und auch das Schicksal der Menschheit berühren wird.
