Frankenstein is a novel by Mary Shelley. It was first published in 1818. Ever since its publication, the story of Frankenstein has remained brightly in the imagination of the readers and literary circles across the countries. In the novel, an English explorer in the Arctic, who assists Victor Frankenstein on the final leg of his chase, tells the story. As a talented young medical student, Frankenstein strikes upon the secret of endowing life to the dead. He becomes obsessed with the idea that he might make a man. The Outcome is a miserable and an outcast who seeks murderous revenge for his condition. Frankenstein pursues him when the creature flees. It is at this juncture t that Frankenstein meets the explorer and recounts his story, dying soon after. Although it has been adapted into films numerous times, they failed to effectively convey the stark horror and philosophical vision of the novel. Shelley's novel is a combination of Gothic horror story and science fiction.

The book Braving the Clouds is the journey of a mother whose son suffers from schizophrenia. A journey that started suddenly, as though out of the blue, but its a journey that seems to see no end. The agonizing pain, the heart-wrenching moments, the trials, and the tribulations of a mother who has no option but to be a witness to this harrowing mental disorder of her son. The denial and subsequently the acceptance. Acceptance of an illness that is treatable but not curable. Acceptance that brings in its tow the various paths she treads upon to see her son free enough from this illness, to be able to lead a normal life. Acceptance which imparts to her the strength and the tenacity to somehow, anyhow break the shackles of this illness around her son. The journey, no matter how agonizing or difficult has not been able to break the hope she clings onto for her son. It is not her intention to give a detailed account of Schizophrenia since a lot of material is available on the Internet regarding this illness. She wants to share her experiences which she has gathered en route, with those in a similar situation like hers. If shes able to touch the life of even one person through her book, the purpose of writing this book will be achieved. Touching other lives is one of the many things of which life is all about.

Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, is a novel written by English author Mary Shelley about eccentric scientist Victor Frankenstein, who creates a grotesque creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. Shelley started writing the story when she was eighteen, and the novel was published when she was twenty. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley's name appears on the second edition, published in France in 1823. Shelley had travelled through Europe in 1814, journeying along the river Rhine in Germany with a stop in Gernsheim which is just 17 km (10 mi) away from Frankenstein Castle, where two centuries before an alchemist was engaged in experiments. Later, she traveled in the region of Geneva (Switzerland)-where much of the story takes place-and the topics of galvanism and other similar occult ideas were themes of conversation among her companions, particularly her lover and future husband, Percy Shelley. Mary, Percy, Lord Byron, and John Polidori decided to have a competition to see who could write the best horror story. After thinking for days, Shelley dreamt about a scientist who created life and was horrified by what he had made; her dream later evolved into the story within the novel. Frankenstein is infused with elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement and is also considered to be one of the earliest examples of science fiction. Brian Aldiss has argued that it should be considered the first true science fiction story, because unlike in previous stories with fantastical elements resembling those of later science fiction, the central character "makes a deliberate decision" and "turns to modern experiments in the laboratory" to achieve fantastic results. It has had a considerable influence across literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories, films, and plays. Since publication of the novel, the name "Frankenstein" is often used to refer to the monster itself.
