The photographer Peter Basch, German/American, was one of the masters of his trade. Born the son of an actor in 1923 in Berlin, Basch emigrated with his family to the US in 1933. In 1950 he established a big studio in New York and became one of America's most renowned photographers. His pictures and reportages were printed by all the big magazines. From the late 50s onwards, Basch travelled Europe extensively to take photographs of movie celebrities in the studios of Italy, France, Germany and Great Britain. To have your picture taken by Basch was a great achievement. Women were his preferred motif, be it stars or starlets. Peter Basch also made a name for himself as pin-up-photographer. However, he always proved himself to be a perfect gentleman with an impeccable taste. Basch retired from public life in the 70ies, and his art work was largely forgotten. He died in 2004 in New York.
