Este volumen bilingüe (español/inglés) conmemora el vigésimo quinto aniversario de la titulación de Filología Inglesa (actualmente denominada Estudios Ingleses) en la Universidad de Huelva desde la primera promoción egresada (1994) a 2019 a través de los testimonios de profesionales y estudiantes implicados en la misma. El libro ofrece un recorrido por vivencias y experiencias relativas a la puesta en marcha y progresiva consolidación de un campo de estudio, los Estudios Ingleses, que constituye uno de los motores profesionales de la provincia, ya de por sí bien conocida por el legado histórico y cultural que la presencia británica dejó en ella.

Se trata del volumen XI de la revista de la Sociedad Española de Estudios Renacentistas Ingleses, que tiene como base una selección de artículos y ensayos presentados en la XI reunión de dicha sociedad celebrada en Huelva en el mes de marzo del año 2002. La obra se divide en cinco grandes apartados: Renaissance Literature, Shakespeare Studies; Historical Linguistics, Restoration Literature y Renaissance and Restoration Cultural Studies.

This collection of essays attempts to expand the notion of the «Black Atlantic» beyond its original racial, geographical, linguistic and cultural borders while acknowledging its remarkable ability to disturb established historical truths and to go beyond traditional dichotomies, thereby providing an essential tool for cross-cultural understanding. It is divided into four sections, each of them dealing with a different approach to the question of the «Black Atlantic». «Definitions» touches on the various limitations of Gilroy's original concept. «Readings» focuses on how the «Black Atlantic» can be productively used in readings of certain literary texts. «Practices» shifts towards the practical applications of the concept in order to explore the impact it has had on academic disciplines and examine to what extent it may have altered their epistemology and working procedures. Finally, «Dialogues» engages with the «Black Atlantic» from the perspectives of two creative writers whose work includes transatlantic themes and characters.
