Plato's Allegory of the Cave is one of the most elegant and important metaphors in Western philosophy. It is a dialogue between Plato's brother Glaucon and his mentor Socrates, narrated by the latter, in which Plato elucidates his Theory of Forms.

Platon (MÖ yaklaşık 428-MÖ yaklaşık 348): Bugünkü üniversitenin atası sayılan Akademia'nın kurucusu ve hocası Sokrates'i konuşturduğu diyaloglarla felsefeyi yazıya en iyi aktarmış ustalardan biridir. Bu kitapta birbirini tamamlayan dört diyalog yer almaktadır. İlk diyalog olan Euthyphron'da yargılanışının öncesi anlatılır ve dinsizlikle suçlanan Sokrates'in inançları hakkında bilgi verilir. Sokrates'in Savunması'nda ise yargı süreci anlatılmaktadır. Kriton'da hüküm sonrası anlatılır, bir yurttaşın saygı duyması gereken ilkeler tartışılır. Platon'un en şiirsel eserlerinden biri olan Phaidon'daysa Sokrates'in son günü anlatılırken ruh hakkındaki düşünceleri yansıtılmaktadır.

Plato, Allan Bloom wrote, is "the most erotic of philosophers," and his Symposium is one of the greatest works on the nature of love ever written. This new edition brings together the English translation of the renowned Plato scholar and translator, Seth Benardete, with two illuminating commentaries on it: Benardete's "On Plato's Symposium" and Allan Bloom's provocative essay, "The Ladder of Love." In the Symposium, Plato recounts a drinking party following an evening meal, where the guests include the poet Aristophanes, the drunken Alcibiades, and, of course, the wise Socrates. The revelers give their views on the timeless topics of love and desire, all the while addressing many of the major themes of Platonic philosophy: the relationship of philosophy and poetry, the good, and the beautiful.

Written around 380 BC, The Republic work is an important contribution to the age old question of how to best structure a society in a just way. Plato: Euthyphro

Phaedrus is widely recognized as one of Plato's most profound and beautiful works. It takes the form of a dialogue between Socrates and Phaedrus and its ostensible subject is love, especially homoerotic love. Socrates reveals it to be a kind of divine madness that can allow our souls to grow wings and soar to their greatest heights. Then the conversation changes direction and turns to a discussion of rhetoric, which must be based on truth passionately sought, thus allying it to philosophy. The dialogue closes by denigrating the value of the written word in any context, compared to the living teaching of a Socratic philosopher.

Phaedrus

Plato's Socrates raises in acute form, and for the first time in European thought, a central question: is it right to disobey the state? This is Socrates' controversial answer.
