Biography of Australian champion boxer telling of his childhood in the Hunter valley in NSW, his boxing career, his controversial journey to the US during WWI, just before the first conscription referendum and his death in the US in 1917 aged 21. Much of the book is based on material on Darcy collected by Park's late husband, the novelist Darcy Niland. Park is an award-winning author who has written over 50 books, including 'Swords and Crowns and Rings' which won the Miles Franklin Award, and 'A Fence Around the Cuckoo' which won the Age Book of the Year Award for non-fiction. Champion's other publications include 'Discrimination and Intellectual Handicap'.
