In continuità con i seminari organizzati sui docenti che hanno dato prestigio alla Prima Facoltà di Architettura del Politecnico di Milano (oggi Facoltà di Architettura e Società) nella seconda metà del '900 - Franca Helg (2006),Marco Zanuso (2007), Vittoriano Viganò (2008) - il volume ha come obiettivo la presentazione critica della figura e della ricerca di Eugenio Battisti: storico, innovatore degli studi interpretativi dell'arte e dell'architettura, anticipatore dell'interdisciplinarità tra storia e progetto. Con questa iniziativa, la Triennale di Milano intende rendere omaggio a Battisti, curatore della mostra "Il luogo del lavoro. Dalla manualità al comando a distanza", organizzata nel 1986 in preparazione della XVII Esposizione internazionale, che ha rappresentato uno straordinario momento di analisi e dibattito sul tema della progettazione degli spazi destinati al lavoro, investiti da profonde, talvolta traumatiche, trasformazioni, con ripercussioni sulle abitudini di vita e sui rapporti sociali.

"Caracas Litoral, Venezuela looks at the challenges, obstacles, and opportunities facing the reconstruction of coastal communities near Caracas, after mudslides devastated these areas in December 1999. Already in the midst of informal land development, affluent weekend residents from Caracas had awkwardly occupied this dramatic and precarious strip of coastland between the Gulf of Mexico and the Avila Mountain--"also shared with the national airport and second largest seaport. In a city where most of the urban population lives in informal housing, the contested nature of redevelopment--"emergent social, economic, and cultural patterns confronting traditional patterns of settlement--"could easily be predicted. Fully bilingual, in English and Spanish, this book explores opportunities that unite the various constituencies through innovative programming, sustainable geological/hydrological infrastructure, and economically viable housing and commercial development.

The Urban Lifeworld contributes to our understanding of the cultural role of cities by offering new insight into the analysis of urban experience. Two exceptional cities, New York and Copenhagen, are the focus of this exploration of cultural representations of urban life, which investigates the contrasts between perceptions and formation of the urban lifeworld.
