Vincent van Gogh s'installe le 20 mai 1890 à Auvers-sur-Oise, et passe les soixante-dix derniers jours de sa vie dans la petite Auberge Ravoux. En deux mois, il peint presque autant de tableaux que Klimt en toute une vie. Ce livre réunit pour la première fois l'ensemble de ses dernières oeuvres, et les met en regard avec les lettres, souvent illustrées, qu'il a écrites à son frère Theo, à sa belle-soeur Johanna, à sa famille et à ses amis.
