this manga had a slow start but it was understandable because though it was slow, it was clear something eerie was going on. i only bought the first volume and now i can't wait to get the second

the dread i felt throughout the whole series is crazy man

all the characters were flawed, some more than others (im talking about you crazy hag) but it just so compelling, i couldn't stop reading

also the artwork is just chief's kiss, he's just so good at portraying emotions !!!!

This is a horror, thriller, slice of life manga and I'm not the biggest fan of slice of life. That being said this was entertaining enough and I enjoyed the increase in encroaching creepiness as the manga goes on. If you're looking for something creepy with a slow burn, this is it!

Oshimi is a weird guy that tells weird story's with a great dynamic... Solid first volume. It's interesting that he's frequently writing about weird/mess up family relationships. That's not something you see in Japanese manga.

the suspense is kinda cool, but I'm more disappointed than intrigued by the story. 

inside Mari was my entry to oshimi's writing style and was pretty good... I also watched some episodes of aku no hana and even tho I didn't finish the anime, with these three stories I can see that this autor suffers from certain repetitions - characterwise - even in such creative and different contexts. But some patterns emerge... and these patterns make me think Oshimi's geniality, actually could be ignorance, and his creativity drawing such intense and thrilling suspense scenes is what he lacks in character development. 

Yes, sounds crazy, I know. 

I don't want to play the feminist who demands only "good" women making justice... super-hero kinda gal, in my stories. No way. Female villains are great to read, especially the tricky ones, cuz that's the stuff that make the story great and dense. But after three well know stories, I'm really tired of the same treacherous, unnecessary lustful, and biasedly aggressive female types that Oshimi's writes. Especially when he insists to contrast that to the male lead - that looks the same character always - who is EXTREMELY PASSIVE almost naive archetypes, who initially appears to have every chance to happiness if it weren't for a crazy woman in their lives to mess up their heads with they evilness and sinful ways! muahahaha 

(And I just hate everybody in this story. everybody. even the father!!! And he's so normal he could just walk out through this manga and have a life in the real world and nobody will notice.. and I hate him!) 

At first, when we met Sei I thought "uh, Sei looks like a smart boi. He has some interpersonal intelligence, right?  Like, he can judge well even acting more like a pushover. Okay, let's see what he'll become." AND HE'S ANNOYING AF! His mother mess up he's head so hard every single day for idk... 60+ chapters, so now looks like his brain just gave up on normal human being responses! I wouldn't be surprised if all of a sudden he's stops speaking again but this time around he starts croaking like a frog!

And I hate his mom so darm much. But not for the reasons the author want me to hate her. Isn't bc of the things she did with Sei, no no no no no.... it's just bc she's a new Mari! I liked Mari, I really liked her bc she was different, she was mean, problematic, caused confusion cuz first of all her mind was always on a brink to collapse..but above all, she was interesting to follow cuz she was new. Now I understand, Oshimi just know this type of female character. Even the girl Seiichi liked, that girl from school- who at first glance look like a freaking normal person thank goodness, and turns out to be a horny ass selfish bitch? Even that girl is some kind of Mari! 

I'll probably dnf this. Why continue on this if I cant stand look at anybody face?... especially Sei's face, you know? Just go far away to the countryside, work in a farm with cute animals, go see a doctor and hope for the best.

My review is based very much in personal experience. Objectively? The art is great, the writing is great, the story is terrifying.

That is where my objectivity ends.

Shuzo Ishimi very much understands the horror of dysfunctional familial relationships in a way that makes me wonder if he lived through one cause I do not generally find this level of understanding from a person who hasn't. This story does not simply sit you down and say through exposition "this dynamic is wrong"; it lives the adage "show do not tell" with a variety of subtleties and microexpressions that set an incredibly unnerving tone. The first defining moment of the manga that shows you clearly and explicitly is, of course, the one that most know about in volume one. But even up till then you get little hints, little indicators of something off, that maybe there's something too unsettling about this. Just....they're very easy to brush off, because, just like people irl outside the familial dynamic, we simply haven't seen enough yet. 

While obviously the horror and weight is predicated heavily on the mother's more outlandish actions, I found Ishimi drew a LOT of atmospheric tension from the little things that people with functional mother-child relationships might know is uncomfortable without knowing why, but that will be klaxons to those of us who've lived with that relationship in dysfucntion. As far as manga goes, this is the one I have seen in any genre that most realistically portrays these kind of dysfunctional dynamics without going too far outside the realm of realism.

For this reason, I would genuienly warn those who have had these unhealthy enmeshed dynamics to like....brace yourselves if you wanna read this? It's SO GOOD and worth the read but whew boy, will it dredge up some stuff.

Como que quiero saber cómo va a terminar la historia pero a la vez ya me está aburriendo. Ahora, que todos los personajes vayan a terapia pls.

Uhh, no sé cuánto más siga con esta historia. Por momentos se me hace muy incómoda de leer, pero a la vez quiero saber qué está pasando y cómo va a terminar esto.

Como me esperaba, se puso re turbina la cosa.

El arte es bien bonito aunque la historia es bastante inquietante. Necesito seguir leyendo para ver qué pasa.

Yo sabía :0. Ahora se está poniendo más interesante. Also, no es terapia pero por lo menos le está sirviendo a Sei.
