recording this per book instead of just the entire thing because it is really composed of three books

★★★★ // I haven’t read Murakami in a long while, so it was nice to get back to his type of novels. Literary fiction, filled with lots of strange occurrences, characters that have almost the same personalities and interests. I would say I have changed a bit and I can see the problems with his writing style, especially the way that he writes women and how the men in his novels perceive women (then again, one can say that this could not be far from reality). Nonetheless, when I read a Murakami novel, I still get so absorbed and that is still the case with this one.

The first book of 1Q84 is essentially a world-building and an introduction of some sorts. There are two protagonists, Aomame and Tengo, and the chapters alternate between their two perspectives. We know as readers that they are connected, that they are meant to find each other one day, but they don’t know that. So it is interesting and exciting to see how they are connected by the same forces that alter their lives: a religious organization, saving abused women, and the mystery they are supposed to uncover. Somehow, there are two moons involved: Aomame sees it as part of her reality but not everyone does, and Tengo is writing about a world that isn’t there and has two moons.

It’s all very strange indeed. Admittedly, there are times when I get exhausted reading the passages here. I do also think that some conversations feel a little unnatural — outrageous even. But it was a page-turner alright. I always want to know what happens next. I am not too eager for Aomame and Tengo to meet (I know there is a time for this) because I am interested to know how these elements surrounding them will bring them together and just how these elements will be weaved eventually.

موراكامي ساحر و بديع أسلوبه شيق و بيخليك تقلب صفحة ورا صفحة دون إحساس بالوقت و دي بالنسبالي اكتر حاجه بتثبت قوة اسلوب الكاتب الي بقرأله الجزء الأول جميل فشخ استمتعت بكل تفاصيله و حكايات الشخصيات التلاتة الرئيسية و الشخصيات الجانبية بإستثناء الاسترسال في وصف العلاقات و الأعضاء الجنسية الي كانت بلا داعي حقيقي بس اشطا ده اسلوب موراكامي فما علينا غير كده مواجهنيش اي مشاكل و التجربة كانت لطيفة و متحمس اكمل باقي الأجزاء

واضح ان هاروكي متأثر بجورج أورويل جدا ودا واضح في إعادة صياغتة لمصطلح الاخ الكبير في 1984 واللي كتبها اورويل سنه 1949 واللي اكتشفت ان دي سنه ميلاد السيد هاروكي أفندي، ربنا عايز كدا.

 هنا مفيش الأخ الكبير، هنا فيه الناس الصغار.
 هنا مش عالم ونستون سميث وجوليا لكن هنا عالم تنغو و أومامه .
واللي الحقيقه معرفش هل هو نفس العالم فعلا أو لا ومين هم الناس الصغار وعملهم ايه وليه وازاي فواضح لسه العظمه جايه .

 المهم طلعنا من الجزئيه دي مدركين تماما إنك أينما تذهب ومهما تفعل، لن تستطيع أبداً الهروب من ضغط المياه. تألم كيفما تشاء، ولكنك لن تستطيع أبداً الإفلات من سطوتها.

I really enjoyed most of it. Weird, dreamy, unexpected in sort of way. Maybe sometimes too many details? Too much information, repeated even. But the overall line of the story is really interesting, waiting to dig in the 2nd part :) !
