Part of the higher rating is surely dictated by the fact that I read this novel in Scotland on vacation.

I'm afraid I didn't really enjoy reading this... This was actually a big disappointment as I'm particularly fond of Alexander McCall Smith's other series (The Sunday Philosophy Club and of course the Mma Ramotswe series). I guess that I just didn't find this book entertaining enough and found it quite boring overall.

Wanted to love this book as I adore AMS but couldn't get past two things: Pat was just slat out the wrong name for that character and her "voice" was of an old woman. not a 20yo.

I had already knew that this book has no plot and i was fine with that. I was looking for a light reading and i enjoy reading/watching things about ordinary lives with no big drama or sad events. 
BUT, i hate the main characters of this book. The story was too shallow. There was no depth in characters also the main love interest was too forced and annoying. I wouldn’t be able to finish it if I hadn’t skip some pages in the last couple of chapters.

This was so much fun!!!! Very different experience reading a serial as a novel. Made me feel like I was there with McCall Smith as he wrote it, because you could pick up on little nuances and hints that he dropped earlier on, remembered, and reintroduced. I thoroughly enjoyed the slightly less polished writing style of having to publish a chapter a day! Was occasionally too disjointed and there were a fair few unanswered questions which lost this book a star, but as always, McCall Smith is a gem 💎
