I can honestly say I loved this book of poetry and I'm kinda picky when it comes to poetry in general. From the first poem in this collection, however, I was hooked. Kai managed to not only tell her story well, but it truly was different than the same thing that gets written over and over. Her poetry was original and spoke to such depths and had a rhythm to them I only have really ever saw in the Break Beat Poets. The way she was able to convey her life and experiences was hard to read but made me want to read on because it was done well and because within those poems you start to know her and need to be the person there for her to tell it to. In the world of poetry, there is a growing trend of strong women from Amanda Lovelace to Rupi Kaur to KY Robinson, I believe Kai adds to this growing list of women and fits perfectly.

Damn. How do you describe a book of poetry that is so full of rage and hope that even though it discusses many things outside of your experiences, you are awash with empathy and a great need to cry/scream. Thom is a transwomen with a lot to say about bigotry and survival in beautiful, knife-like, poetic language. She shies away from nothing, whether it be painful insights and lessons about her own behaviour, or the horrible actions of society as a whole. This is a fantastic, powerful, angry book.
