This is a hard one to review because I can't say I really liked the book - it was just a bit too out there for me. It's message of life is really hard and then shit gets crazy but you'll be okay mixed with a heavy dose of the surreal. Maybe if you like Kafka or Kurt Vonnegut books, this might be for you. It wasn't really for me, but I still was compelled enough to finish it and I wanted to know how everything turned out. 2.5 stars.

Do I love this or do I hate it? I can't even decide how to categorize it. Realistic? Sci-Fi? Magical Realism? Was this all in their heads? I think it is up to each reader to decide, and that makes it brilliant. This book pushed me so far outside my comfort zone with plot, character development and reality that it makes me love it, even when it made my head and heart hurt and was impossibly hard to follow. I don't know how much of a YA audience this one has, but as a literary work it is impressive.

im in love with this book. i would build an invisible helicopter and fly to an invisible land with this book. this book has more self-esteem than i do. 
honestly, i didn't think i would like it. i read a lot of shitty reviews, and i've never read surrealist fiction before. this book is filled with metaphor. or maybe it's not, and i'm overthinking it. either way, it can be very confusing at times, but not too confusing that you're discouraged from reading. just confusing enough that you want to know what's really going on. 
some things about this book:
i've never read more believable characters in my life, which is a strange thing to say considering the surreal/magical aspect of the story. 
it deals heavily and surprisingly literally with trauma and mental illness and overcoming those things. 
you'll probably think about this book for a very long time after reading it. 
you'll probably never stop thinking about it.

A.S. King’s latest published work relies heavily on surrealism and the complexities of human emotions; tying everything together gracefully and making the experience of reading it both fun and full of depth.

I Crawl Through It isn’t my usual sort of read, and while it isn’t my favorite release of the year, it is still something I’m glad I read. There's just something about it that spoke to me in the long run. Long story short: it’s an engaging read that started off slow but really kicked your ass the longer you read, the more you learned and the more you got used to all its quirks.

It’s entire prose is something you don’t see often in young adult fiction and what it creates is something that will be interpreted different amongst its audience. King’s characters everything that strong leads should be: relatable, sarcastic, brave, intelligent, fun, secretive and full of the horrors of life.

Most importantly, they are alive and crawling through life for solutions of their own. Their problems are real, their thoughts are colorful, the way they are developed is unique and dark and beautiful.
