His first book dealt with homophobia which continues in this book, but a tale of witchcraft is more focused on mental illness. Specifically depression. Chris Colfer portraits these themes in a unique way which is understandable for teenagers and even kids. Besides his beautiful quotes and important themes, the book was also funny and had an amazing plottwist!

The land of stories was once my favourite book series of all time, but since then it has somewhat disappeared from my memory. I decided to read this on a whim, hoping for some magic. It took me completely by surprise. I loved it. 

It tells the story of a young girl living in a kingdom where she is expected to be a wife above everything. But Brystal Evergreen loves to read and explore, and she knows she is destined for more. Soon, she finds herself sentenced to execution because of it, and the story spirals outward from there. 

It didn't bring me the same joy as the original series, but I'm definitely not the target demographic anymore. I can say that after reading the first tale of magic book, I know the rest will be even better, because this story set up a wonderful premise and amazing characters, I can't wait to learn what happens next.

Synopsis:

What I Liked: 
The references and characters to the original The Land of Stories series were SO fun
The Snow Queen plot twist was good! I actually didn’t predict it ahead of time

What I Disliked: 
The symbolism and social commentary felt a little bit pounded into my head; it could have been more subtle and the same message would have still come across loud and clear

I did not love this book I think it was a but slow. All in all it had a good story line I just didn't feel like I could finish it. I did but it took long and it wasn't his best work. I gave it a 3 as it still has an interesting consept that is interesting to find out more about and read about.

this book is very easy to fell into. If you havent ever read the seires that is before this than you dont really have to but I COMPELTELY RECOMMEND you do. One of my favorite things that author can do is write the "prestory" after the story is already finished and out. Because when you read it you can spot all of the hints for the "story" in the"pre story" it just makes me so happy . please read great for an fast read.

I really wound up loving this book.I have been a large fan of the land of stories series. I really enjoyed this as a prequel series and all the fam faces we met. I loved the magic school element and also loved how this book focused on found family. I also thoughts this book tackled so harder topics like poltics, and prejudices and really had a hard time putting this book down. I found the small group of characters so fun. I loved the unexpected twists and turns and loved the writing styles and the world building. I am dying for book 2!
