This was a sweet and wholesome hero's journey, with good feminist and trans/gender queer messaging. I also loved the backdrop of East Asian mythology/folklore rather than the "medieval Europe" style fantasy that is all too common.

fun!!! well-written and fantastical. i love YA sometimes.

i couldn't finish this.. halfway through i started skimming and skipping to the end. a lot of the worldbuilding took place in the footnotes and so many terms i could not keep track of or remember made the book confusing to read at times. also even more tiresome was the repeated mention of what its like to be a woman in a patriarchal society, each time without adding anything new

I absolutely adored this book! It was incredible! So cute, and complex, and surprising!
I loved the humour in this book, it was perfect.
I liked the way everything came together and the reasons behind certain things.
I wasn’t keen on the time-travel-y aspect of the book, but it was entertaining.
I loved Geiki. He was perfect and I will not hear a bad word about him!
Miuko was a strong character, and great as a central character.
The other side characters were great too and I enjoyed them immensely.
I did have a slight problem pronouncing words, despite the footnotes, and remembering what certain words meant, but I still love this book!

this was cute and fun and i loved geiki and miuko's friendship, but it felt a bit repetitive at parts. i unfortunately got bored halfway through so it was a struggle to finish - probably because i've read one too many similar stories and it wasn't hard to predict where this was going.
