Five Little Pigs

I like the ending but the second third of the story is a waste of time. The crime took place sixteen years before the time of the story and Poirot spends his time interviewing the little pigs to get their version of what had happened. The book could then easily go right to the reconstruction (third part of the book) chapters but instead it choses to languish for another hundred pages on written accounts of the interviews we've just read! ARGH!!!! Do yourself a favor and skip the second act for the third.

Apart from That, the awesome plots make me gape. This book also gave me beautiful lessons about life. 

Hercule Poirot, a private detective, investigates a scandal from the psychology of witnesses, Something the police never paid attention to. And then the truth finally proved. 

Something that occurred 16 years ago, and was never noticed again, leaves trauma to the parties concerned. But suddenly the daughter of the accused perpetrator comes to Hercule Poirot to clean her mother's name, and the fact that she never believed her mother killed her father, is based on a letter from her mother. 

Hercule Poirot supposes the witnesses are like the rhyme 5 Little Pigs. 
This little pig goes to market (Philip Blake) 
This little pig stays at home (Meredith Blake) 
This little pig enjoys grilled meat (Elsa Greer) 
This little pig doesn't have anything (Cecilia Williams) 
This little pig crying "hik hik" (Angela Warren) 

After checking police journals and asking all of them who joined the court, Poirot went to these witnesses and asked them to write all they could remember about this case. 

All of them have a unique character and perspective about this married couple. Apart say they're a terrible couple, apart say they're loveable, and apart say they're not supposed to be a couple. 

One thing that they never know about them is; that Amyas, the husband, never has the idea to leave his wife, Caroline, he is just obsessed with Elsa, the girl who gives him inspiration for his painting, but after that, he plans to tell her to leave.

Everybody should understand his artistic soul, his free soul, and the fact that his wife doesn't take issue with it and just feels sorry for this young girl, Elsa. 

Unfortunately, this Young-pretty girl doesn't accept, she's disappointed, mad, annoyed, and curses Amyas until she sees Caroline take coniine (poison) from Meredith's laboratory she got this idea - she must kill Amyas Crale. 

Nobody knows this fact, nobody knows Amyas never wanted to leave his wife, nobody knows what Elsa heard from Amyas and Caroline's dialogue that morning. And also Nobody knows who's the real murderer.

It’s a short little tale and as such it should not have taken me this long to finish. But quite honestly I don’t think I even needed to read the whole book. Once the basic story was established I could have skipped to the conclusion. I don’t think I would have lacked any understanding or satisfaction in doing so. 

It’s a good book, but it’s not great. I didn’t enjoy reading the same story over and over and over. The differences were too minute to really make a difference, and while it was a unique approach to story writing that I did appreciate, it lacked in execution. 

Top it off with a weirdly unsatisfactory conclusion, and I feel a little like I wasted my time on this book, as much as it pains me to say it.

Five Little Pigs A Hercule Poirot Mystery

In Five Little Pigs the famous detective comes back to the murder 16 years old. He must rely on the faulty memories of five key witnesses, each having their own opinions whether justice was served properly, to prove or disapprove the judge's verdict. Poirot proves once more that even time is not a match for his little grey cells. Perhaps not the most conniving mystery by Christie, but I had a very good couple of hours in its company.

Feels like a classic Poirot who uses his little gray cells to solve the case. There are some great red herrings, and it's my favorite kind of reveal where you feel like you should have seen it if you were paying attention.

I really liked the psychology of the characters. The way you could look at the same people differently based on your opinions. I was so sure that i knew who the killer was, but my guesses were wrong in the end. Very wellwritten

I read this book for the first time many years ago. Usually I forget the details of the mystery, or even the culprit, but this time I could remember who the murderer was.
While I was reading, a lot of other things came to mind.

This is a bit unusual as I tend to just forget most of the story, but I think this has stuck with me for quite a long time. I definitely enjoy the fact the murder happened a long time before (even though I prefer those taking place in the present) and the isolated house, the poisoning, the characters.

In one of Christie’s most unique tales, Poirot takes on a case from 16 years in the past. In some editions, this one was actually titled Murder in Retrospect, which tells you a little bit about the style here. Again working alone and at the behest of a young truth-seeking woman, Poirot looks to find out what really happened with a case of inter-family poisoning. Interviewing the major players and suspects (except the one who died shortly after the murder…), Hercule works to piece together not only the facts of the case but the varying 16-year-old memories of what happened.

Five Little Pigs seems to be a favorite of a lot of Christie devotees, and I can certainly see why. It’s Poirot, and Agatha of course, at their very best and the format is absolutely unique among all the detective novels I’ve read. Superb.

A little slow and boring I think. The while day is gone over and over again without much to break up the retellings. However it wraps rather deliciously and becomes a thoroughly wonderful mystery.

Despite the fact it took me over a week to finish (ugh life), this was very good. I was a little hesitant that it wasn't the first Poirot novel and that I would be lost, but it didn't matter at all. Dame Agatha most certainly has a way with stories...the writing style is so formal that it forces you to remember that this is, in fact, a murder mystery. While feeling a bit tame (the murder happens well before the book begins) I still enjoyed it. Even when I was so sure of the murderer, I was still wrong, and yet the explanation always makes sense with her and makes me wonder how I couldn't see it myself. I did find myself confusing the two Blake brothers, but it didn't seem to matter too much to be quite honest.
