I tried to challenge Poirot once again and failed (as expected, perhaps). He beat me up again at last. And it came with Agatha Christie’s usual writing style—there’s always something that subtly guides our thoughts in the direction she intends. ‘Amazing’ might be an understatement. You can be suspicious of all the characters, observe and analyze each one, and still be outwitted by Poirot’s intelligence. Truly like The Queen of Mystery she is, always left me agape everytime I close the book. What an experience.

A careless statement is uttered after a funeral, which seem to lead to a brutal crime....

Another delightful mystery, and I totally suspected the wrong person! Yet again, the cast of characters was vast and involved multiple relations. I find that Christie liked just dumping a boatload of names on the unsuspecting readers and letting them figure out the connections for themselves. I always have such a hard time distinguishing characters for the first few chapters, but they do tend to get a distinct voice eventually. Right off the bat, this novel opened up with a gathering of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and their respectable spouses. Just get through that part and have faith in Christie's storytelling to eventually untangle this viper's nest.

           An amazing book with a plot I would never think of. There were characters which were very similar yet entirely different at the same time, which is incredible to do in a book.
The plot twist is expected, yet you really never know when it’s going to happen. I remember thinking through the entire thing “when is this going to happen?” Because I was already a bit familiar with how Agatha Christie writes. 
About the twist itself, I wasn’t expecting it whatsoever. At first it seemed to come out of left field, Cora not being Cora but also being Cora. It seemed to just be an ending of an overused plot which everyone thought of. However the more I think about it, the more and more it makes sense. I remember when I first met the maid I thought to myself, “wow, her and Cora are so similar, it must be from living together for so long,” only to realize at the end we’ve never seen a scene where Cora was Cora and not the maid. There were little details woven throughout the book that can only come to a fully thought out plot from beginning to end. Very good.

Let’s start off with, Agatha Christie never misses and that’s a fact. 
That being said this wasn’t my favourite. It was good yes, obviously. The only thing is that it needed some push, some getting into. Usually, her books take like the first few chapters (ranging 1 to 5 approximately), before I’m invested. Now this one got good like, half way in. It was great once I was in, but it took a while. Probably due to the minor dose of Poirot, whom I adore. It was mostly focused on the family and their discussions, plus some other retired or not policemen thrown in, for a good majority. Poirot first appeared also halfway through and wasn’t much in afterwards either. Tho, he of course had his everyone-sit-down-I-have-shit-to-divulge moment, iconic. Overall enjoyed it, just harder to get into than usual.
