Altro finale inaspettato: di certo non una novità per la Christie. Sicuramente dopo aver letto un po' di libri con protagonista Poirot, ci si abitua a questi finali con sorpresa e infatti il "trucco" sta tutto nel cercare gli indizi che la Christie lascia magistralmente trapelare fra le pagine. Ammetto che qui le tracce non mancano e l'assassino lo si può facilmente capire già nei primissimi capitoli, come anche il movente. Tuttavia, molto probabilmente questo sta nel fatto che ormai si sa che nei gialli di Poirot l'assassino può essere chiunque, ma proprio chiunque. Infatti, la mia è stata una lettura veloce per vedere se effettivamente avevo capito chi era il colpevole.
Romanzo probabilmente non a livello di "Assassinio sull'Orient Express" o "L'assassino di Roger Ackroyd", più strutturati e intricati, ma sicuramente molto piacevole e essenzialmente alla Christie.

I think at this point, after reading numerous Hercule Poirot mysteries, I learned to guess the perp rather easily. Not because I am so brilliant (which might or might not be the case), but because I figured out early on that if you point your finger at the least suspected person, you would be right more often than not. Wonderful twist though, and think anyone will get a kick out it.

           One of Ms Christie’s most spell binding Poirot stories. Right up there with Orient Express. Captured my undivided attention right till the very end and kept my bad habit of figuring out the end right till the name came out of Mr Hercule Poirot’s mouth. And was astonishing to see the murderer hiding in such plain sight. Will look to see if Mr Suchet has done this already, otherwise it would be serve the basis for an excellent Christopher Nolan adaptation. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!

A good twist, one where you feel like you should've seen it in retrospect. Some great red herrings. Poirot enters late, though, and I did miss him.

The identity of the murderer AND the murder method in this are both fairly preposterous, but somehow it works, I don't know what to tell you. As ever, Christie is the queen of the seemingly throwaway line and/or insignificant gesture, we love to see it.

Also, 95% sure Rian Johnson read this right before writing Knives Out.

Primer libro de Agatha Christie que leo. Me ha gustado bastante, no me imaginaba quién era el culpable ni de lejos. Es cierto que el tipo personajes es muy típico, incluso el motivo del crimen también, aún así me ha tenido intrigada en todo momento.

This wasn't exactly what I expected, as I imagined to feel more of the Christmas vibe. But it barely felt like Christmas, and with a reason, but I wasn't very disappointed since I read this is September, and it's ok if it doesn't really feel like the holiday season.

As for the mystery, I was so sure I knew the solution to the case. I was convinced that Simeon Lee had invited all these people to see them bicker and be tense, and then kill himself in a way that would make all of them look guilty and turn against each other. Kind of a posthumous dark joke. I also believed that the policeman was there to immediately see the crime scene and suspect his family under request of the dead, and the diamonds were planted in the garden to further suspects.

But then the twist was so unexpected! Once again, Agatha Christie always makes the murderer the one you least expect. And if you go and pick the least expected, the culprit will be one that is even less expected and you never even considered them.
And so this time: the policeman. I would never have guessed! Such a surprise but it made total sense once it was explained.

Mind blowing twist at the end. I was sure I had it pegged, but Christie threw me for a loop. Go figure. Given the Christmas theme, I only Christie had captured more of a diabolical Christmas spirit and scene-setting. It was really only Christmas-y because the murder was on Christmas Eve. Class Christie though and certainly recommended.

This was a really fun read! The whole time while I was reading this I kept going back and forth about who the murderer was. It was definitely a twist when we found out and something I was not expecting!

It was a solid Poirot novel. I didn't get bogged down by all of the talking, which usually happens to me with Poirot novels, and I think the solution was pleasantly interesting. I didn't guess it, at least.

A good Christmas read, whether or not you've read the series.
