The chaotic, confusing, muddled beginning through me off for this whole book. As someone who has read copious amounts of British History and studied it in college, Weir's description of Elizabeth's immediate previous ancestry and early life confused even me. She used the same terms such as "Queen" for multiple people (granted, multiple women claimed the title at the time which is why a good historian would use another word or phrase to clarify between them) and makes hardly any effort to clarify the historical actor's identity besides using their name. During this time period, one needs more than a name. Most of them chose from the same limited number. 

Eventually, the narrative settled down and became relatively clear. Weir got off to a terrible start though.

I did appreciate learning more about this queen around whom so much history revolved.
