Few things anger a Chinese more than a surgeon who amputates the wrong leg, or a neighbour’s mongrel who impregnates their pedigree Shih Tzu. Both of these imaginary situations were ones I used for role-play exercises in my English language classes in Taiwan, and both yielded delightful results. Students waxed voluble, far more so than in other imaginary situations.
