(updated after 2nd read) This is book 2 of the Garoul series, but they can each be read separately without having read the others. Goldenseal reviews made me think i wouldn't like it, but this book was consistently reported to be much better. So, i skipped book 1 and just came straight to this one. I didn't miss anything or feel left out of the loop. (note: i've since gone back to read book 1, and liked it the best of the three. that's a reminder to take your reviews with a grain of salt)

This book seemed more focused on the romance than 1 and 3, which had more of the paranormal aspect to them, but the romance seemed rushed and as other reviews commented, this book ended too abruptly. So despite good character chemistry, the romance story itself didn't quite reach it's potential. (and didn't quite end on solid ground even). It still managed to deliver in the laugh-out-loud department though.

-I LOVED the characters. You'll love Jolie, the highly intelligent but socially awkward doofus that brought much of the comedy to this book. Hope was a nice touch of romance despite disability and turns out to be one spit-fire woman. 

-I wouldn't consider the paranormal aspect a big factor in this book, actually. Book 1 and 3 are the books you'll like more if you appreciate the dark, mystery, paranormal to be a main plot in the book. Also, in book 3, [[ASIN:B004Z1UW8U Indigo Moon (Garoul)]], Hope and Godfrey from this book, play strong supporting roles.

I really like Gill McKnight's character creation and her ability to add humor to just about anything. [[ASIN:B0045EOJSG Erosistible]] and [[ASIN:B0045EOJR2 Green Eyed Monster]] were both superb. And Goldenseal and Indigo Moon from this Garoul series are my favorite paranormal lesfic by far; But this book despite the 5 star components, only gets a 4 star rating from me. I recommend it nevertheless, for a valiant attempt at combining her comedic prowess with the paranormal.

The thing with the Garouls is you never get quite what you think you will. They really are something else. Hope Glassy loves her job at Ambereye, Inc., despite having Jolie Garoul as her new boss.. Jolie is a moody workaholic. She is awkward, contrary, and on occasion just plain mean. Hope is hardworking, popular, and in recovery from a serious illness. She doesn’t need a bizarre boss. She doesn’t need office politics. And she doesn’t need to work over Thanksgiving either. Nevertheless, that’s what she and Jolie end up doing…in Little Dip, home of the Garoul clan.. An important meeting brings them to the valley where it’s assumed Jolie has brought her chosen mate to meet her pack. Much to her consternation Jolie finds she likes this idea, but Hope has no time for romance. She is eager to get her life, health, and career back on track, nothing more. Jolie is determined to change her mind, but how does a lycanthrope woo a human? A small and super-efficient, bossy boots human at that?.
