The Cloud Searchers by Kazu Kibuishi is the third installment of the tween graphic novel series, Amulet. Emily and Navin and the rest of the crew are hoping to find the lost city of Cielis. There they hope to learn how to control the Stone that Emily has been forced to wear since book one.

As we are out of the initial travel to a new world and the race against time to save mother, volume 3 takes some time to go into the history of Alledia as well as the reasons behind the Elf Prince's actions in books one and two.

To mix things up a bit, Emily and Navin's mother is now awake. She hasn't gotten used to being in a new world, nor is she willing to accept how much her children have grown and accomplished as heroes. Her over protectiveness is played against the relationship between the Elf King and his son, and I suspect this will be a continuing them in future books.

The world building is especially strong in this volume. The creation of the port city where Emily and Navin hire a ship to take them Cielis reminds me of the trading post in Neil Gaiman's Stardust.

As with the previous two volumes, Kibuishi's backgrounds are amazing. I'm not exactly sold on his character design for the humans and elves. That said, the story is so interesting, it's still a page turner.

Emily's and Narvin's mother is kidnapped and dragged into a strange and magical world where, it seems, the children's great-grandfather has been before. It's up to the children to set things right and save their mother's life.

I read the second book in the Amulet graphic novel series for the Cybils. Intrigued by where the series was going, I went back and read the first book, Amulet: The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi.

It starts off with an accident and a family tragedy, leaving Emily, Navin and their mother to make a new life for themselves. They are forced to move into an ancestral home in the forest far removed from the city. On the first night there the mother is kidnapped and the children must venture into an alternate world to rescue her.

Both Amulet books are heavy on action – lots of running, chasing, hiding and so forth. Usually I complain about alternate worlds taking too long to introduced or world building getting in the way of story telling. Here I'm going to sound fickle and wish for more of both: introductions and world building. I didn't notice the lack of this in the second book because I had assumed the work had been done in this volume. It wasn't.

Like a typical modern, hour long, Doctor Who the explanations and explorations that one used to see in the multipart series are gone, replaced instead by many scenes of running. Here it's a chase to rescue the mother. In the second book, they are either running away from the bad guys or they are racing to find a cure for their ailing mother. The characters (and readers) need a moment to catch their breath.

That being said, I am still enjoying the series and plan to read the third in the series when it's released. I love the artwork and I'm intrigued by this alternate world. I just want a little more time to get to know it.

Well, that was a blast! So glad I finally started this graphic novel series. It did feel a little rushed but everything else was handled so nicely. The adventure’s great, the characters are courageous and endearing, and the art is stunning. Already picking up book two!

Amulet, Vol.1 is a beautifully illustrated Juvenile graphic novel by Kazu Kibuishi that is part fantasy and manga. The story is moving, quirky and fulfills many archetypal tropes that readers will be familiar with. The adventure feels a bit pastiche in the sense that Star Wars is a pastiche. Regardless of Amulet's tendency to rehash familiar archetypal and fantasy tropes, this series is a fun, emotional journey for readers of all ages.

I thought it was going to be light and carefree, just an adventure graphic novel but it hit hard. It is quite dark, and I liked that.

I don't really like the humanoid character design, but everything else is great. Awesome fantastical world, cute robot designs, cthulian monsters. It seems like it'll be a fun adventure. Hopefully the story picks up a bit.

Castle robo is great.

I liked this book much better than the previous two. The introduction of the former antagonists as allies and the issues with trust add the bit of fiber that I was needing in this story. I also enjoyed the training sequence the fox gives to Emily. Up to this point, the series felt a bit too much like wish fulfillment, so it was nice to see some conflict and adversity to overcome.

Also cloud cities are awesome.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I thought the plot was super engaging and found the plot to be super engaging and read it in one sitting. I loved both the lead characters and also the various sidekicks. I am curious to see what the future plots will be. This book was super heart pounding and also super fun. I also thought the drawings and writing complemented each other so well!

I’m not usually a graphic novel person, but I enjoyed this! Very emotional even from the get-go, and excited to see more of this world in the future!

I absolutely love this graphic novel series! The art is amazing, and the story is also fantastic! The baseline of the story was fairly familiar; our adventurer gets led into an unknown world where she has to basically save the world. A magic item is handed down to her from her grandfather and now she is not only fighting against outer forces, but also internal forces. However, it had a lot of twists and turns that I was not expecting. It’s a great adventure story. All of the characters were enjoyable. The creatures and robots were all very creative.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and the art especially. This is meant to be a middle grade graphic novel series but I would be weary for any younger eyes, there is a pretty tragic death within the first few pages.

I know I’ve said it before, but I really love this graphic novel series. The third book picks up right at the end of book two, and it was just as fantastic as the last two. It’s such a fast paced, fun, adventure story. If you read one graphic novel series this year, you should definitely make it this one. I really love the characters; Emily especially. Throughout this story she’s learning so much, but you also see this internal conflict. She’s having trouble fighting the darkness of the stone, but you feel the win every time she’s able to ignore it. Of course, the art is still so stunning. I can’t wait to pick up the next book, which will hopefully be soon!

Amulet is a lot like Spiderwick Chronicles, except instead of a book and fairies it's an amulet and monsters. There's also two kid instead of two and our MC is the older sister not the little brother, and no twins.

It's not bad for what it is, but it's very similar to something else. I originally gave it 4.5 stars but it's too similar to Spiderwick. 4 out of 5 stars.
