3.75 I don't really know what to say about this one. I want to read more by this author because this novel wasn't enough for me to form an opinion on whether or not I like her writing. It's unflinchingly and unbiasedly written, but we're dealing with a pedophile here who no one ever really calls out and his wife even encourages his behavior. It's weird because this is a twisted little love story, mainly between Horace and Elizabeth, but then you have it during the same time as Max's predatory relationship with her is going on. This book spans Elizabeth's life from when she was a child to her 30's, I think. Which felt strange. Both men are prominent in both her childhood and adulthood.
 I don't think I liked the way that this was narrated because you don't really feel for any of the characters, there's a disconnect and I do think that was intentional, but I don't get it. Maybe it's more to protect the writer because there are taboo subjects being intimately written, or like I said earlier to keep bias out.
