Eh. It’s a short, erotic read, but also all of the stories are either Virginity or Lolita. They blend into one another. I recognize the delicate prose and the skill it takes to write about sex delicately, but this failed to live up to expectations. I liked “A Model” and “Mandra.” The rest were barely memorable.

I'm disappointed to say there was a canyon-sized gap between my lofty expectation and actual experience of reading this book. It's my very first Anaïs Nin book after at least a decade of mounting interest (...my virtual 'To Read' stack would pose a worthy challenge to the Burj Khalifa). I'd like to say it was merely the generation gap that was the cause of my disappointment (and occasional gagging), but I can't. It was also the writing. I expected stellar...I got standard. I'm not dismissing Ms. Nin by any means...a woman whose passionately insightful quotes have brought many a glow to my spirit definitely deserves another chance. Just don't think I'll be picking up any of her pedophiliac tainted erotica.
