This was a great read, and also a bit of a tough read. Really well paced, and I could not put the book down. But the subject matter was understandably dark, and some of the reveals were disappointing, if not surprising. But I really loved this book!

I couldn’t wait to be back in touch with this family, so I jumped into these pages right after I finished“Firekeeper’s daughter”. I liked to follow Perry, a very passionate 16 y old badass who takes no prisoners, during few months in various summer internships. Very interesting context about indigenous artefacts and remains business I am ashamed to say I knew only a little about. That reading definitely triggers me to carry on reading about these topics and conditions, as well as native Americans authors generally speaking. Never too late!

Another incredible story. I thought this one was going to be about Daunis and pick up where Fire Keeper’s Daughter left off, but it’s in the perspective of her niece years later. You get answers from the last book, but with a whole new story and so much to learn. The history you learn throughout this novel is astonishing. Personally I would enjoy this as ab audiobook so you’re getting the correct pronunciations. The narrator does a fantastic job.

I was extremely lucky to not only get an eARC but an ALC of Warrior Girl Unearthed. Like everyone else I loved Firekeeper’s Daughter. So when I found out we were getting a book from another person in the family, I was thrilled. Admittedly, I thought it was a prequel, not overly sure why, so I was honestly happy and a bit surprised it wasn’t.
We follow Perry as her and her sister do summer volunteering for their tribe. Perry had no intentions of doing any so when he gets into a car accident in her aunt Daunis’s jeep she’s forced to volunteer as a way of to pay off the damage by working with Cooper who works at the tribe museum. It’s during this that Perry starts helping with getting their artifacts back from museums. Including ancestors who are left in boxes. Perry, in her determined to get back what was stolen from her and her people steals back things and is forced to change who she’s working with during the program. It’s in this change she gets an idea that a white man on Sugar Island is getting the artifacts from graves on the island, which is illegal. Worse, she thinks he’s not only grave robbing these items, but their ancestors bodies ad well. Perry becomes determined to do a heist to get their ancestors back to their people.
This book does important work in not only bringing attention to the issues with US museums and universities keeping remains of native people in boxes in their institution instead of with where they belong. Perry is quick to point out that the same people wouldn’t be happy if the same thing happened to their relatives. Perry’s way of reacting to things isn’t wrong, it’s truly justified while Cooper is more of the adult reasoning that balances out. Perry is more than happy to steal what’s theirs when they were stolen from them anyways. While Cooper has been working for years on trying to get the Warrior Girl and other people back from the local university. 
But this book doesn’t stop there when it comes to important native issues. It also tackles the missing and endangered native women who keep disappearing. Throughout the book women start to disappear with it coming to a head when Chauncey, a friend of Perry’s, is the next woman to disappear. I’m so happy this book touches on it. This is a huge issue that needs more attention to be brought to it. With Firekeeper’s Daughter being a big book club pick, getting these issues out there to a larger audience is extremely important. And it’s done perfectly in my opinion. The two issues in this book are well balanced. Sometimes book twos struggle with this, but this book feels like its own book, with its own characters with only a few callbacks to the first book. You don’t NEED to read the first book, but you’ll be happy with surprises in it that made me really happy to learn about. 
Overall I loved this book. I highly recommend it to everyone. I loved the heist elements in this and I loved seeing Perry and her twin take center stage. They were just little kids in the first book so it was so cool to see the people they become. I really hope the author continues with these stories. Because I really need to know more.
