This is a grumpy-sunshine holiday romance that I absolutely loved. It's a sweet and romantic story between two men in their 40s who aren’t expecting to still get a happily ever after, and who both are lonelier than they would like to admit. 

Gideon Holiday is the perfect neighbor, always cheery, that never hesitates to help, especially during the holidays. Paul Frost is your broody, grumpy, Grinch like neighbor. When he gets a call from his younger brother letting him know that he and his girlfriend are coming for Christmas, Paul gets in panic mode. Gideon sees it all unfolding and easily offers his assistance. With all the planning and decorating, Paul and Gideon become more comfortable with each other and grow closer.
As Christmas comes to an end Gideon fears things will be all over once he is no longer useful and Paul doesn’t need his help, so Paul has to show Gideon how much he means to him, and their Christmas is one of the best ever.


“Somehow, I knew this wouldn’t be the last time I waited up for Gideon. He deserved someone watching out for him, someone to leave a light on, and if he’d let it be me, well, I liked that. It also terrified me. But not enough to dampen how much I wanted to be someone for him.”

Low angst, easy holiday read! I enjoyed both characters and their romance, but I wish there was less reliance on miscommunication and a bit more exploration of their backgrounds (particularly Gideon’s) to give the characters more depth. Overall, though, I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a sweet and satisfying holiday read.
