Some interesting thoughts and ideas in here, but they are usually buried in her relentless attempts at humor. I know a lot of people find her hilarious, but I just felt exhausted by her jokes.

I realized as I started reading this that I had already read it. But I had forgotten enough of it that I continued my re-read. I think I enjoyed it more the first time. I also think I must be tired of reading about writers who search for a thing to be dependent on. I know, that's rather harsh. Lamott's writing is witty and poetic and thought provoking. But I can't help but noticing that she jumped from drugs to drink to Jesus - from man to man to God. Maybe this flu or head cold or whatever I have is making me more cynical. I should give her a 4 star rating.... naaaaa.
