Several years ago, while talking about novel idea I had, someone mentioned that this book sounded quite similar.

Upon finally reading this book, I can see what they meant, however this book is far better than the one I was writing. By which I mean this book was much more focused and tighter.

Even with that said, though, ultimately I don't think this book is very memorable. I've read two books since this one and I'm already struggling to recall some of the details. I wish this book had gone a bit more ham on the magic–I don't understand how the lust spell worked, or what role the physician or brujas played, or how the end even happened? Or I wish this book had had a lighter touch on the magic–explained less of what was going on and just let it be, like Dex's visions or Jess's communication with the dead.

Actually, I think it's just the brujas that are confusing to me. I don't really understand what they did the year that Anna/Annaliese was missing, nor do I understand what they did after Anna (view spoiler)[took the body of the man (hide spoiler)]. I feel they stuck out by going both too explained while not at all explained if that makes sense.

While I enjoyed this book, I doubt I'll revisit it or remember it very well. A good way to spend some time, but ultimately forgettable.
