One of the more predictable of the Poirot cases. I had figured out the solution by the halfway point so the second half of the book was a little tedious to read.

Wherever Poirot ventures, even on holidays to Petra, death seems to follow. Are you sure he is not the real culprit, framing others for his murderous deeds? After all, his reputation, impeccable looks, and harmless appearance might be the perfect disguise. Hmmm... Sound theory. I should be a detective :)

A manipulative and malicious family matriarch is found dead of apparent heart failure, and naturally one or more of her long-suffering children fall under suspicion. But not everything is as simple as it seems. This is a tale as tangled as a nest of snakes.

Really good scene-setting and a perfectly interesting mystery with some compelling chargers. I love when Poirot travels because he's such a baby about any inconvenience or discomfort.

Agatha Christie’s books never fail to impress! I loved how she laid out her false leads and everything to make me suspect that the one guilty was in the Boynton family. (I actually suspected Ginevra). I also loved how Hercule Poirot also explained what made each suspect innocent in the case. Also loved the epilogue included to show how the Boynton family fared well without the influence of their mother. Definitely a must read for everyone who loves a good mystery book!

Meh. If you want a murder mystery with a domineering matriarch, may I recommend Death Sets Sail by Robin Stevens?

           me encanto leer este libro en espanol. estoy practicando mi comprension de espanol y leyendo este libro corto me ayudo mucho. lo unico que no me gusto fue el uso de vosotros. pero aun que usaron vosotros si note que todavia comprendi la historia. al final me quede sorprendida que Lady Westholm fue la culpable. cuando hablaban de ella, ignoraba sus palabras porque no pense que fuera ella la asesina de lady boynton. al final, pirort admito que era ella por los detalles que ellla le doy. me enoje un poco porque uno de esos detalles era sobre su connecion con la carcel, algo que no sabiamos durante el cuento. era interesante leer esto pero no me encanto. si voy a tratar de leer otro de agatha christie's libres, pero sus mad populares como and then there were none.

Once again, I start a book and only half-way through it I realise I have already read it. What is wrong with me???

Still, it was awesome. The Mother in this book is so odious and horrible, I wasn't really very sad she died.
All characters were well-portrayed and all different from each other. I think they were very memorable as I still remember then (mmm wait scrap that, I read half of this with no memory of having met them all before).

The plot is of course the best part of the book. I had an idea of who the culprit was, but only because of a little memory of my past read, and otherwise I would have not guessed.
The setting is also a big strength of the novel. Petra is so beautiful and striking in the background, and made me want to go there on a trip too.

I can't really keep saying that this is one of my favourite Poirot novel, because all of them are my favourite so far. And this one makes no exception.

This was a very good piece of work by Miss Christie. While I suspected some characters, I didn't for one moment suspect the actual murderer. As always a real treat listening to the audiobook.
