For Richard Ayoade and only for Richard Ayoade, I watched View from the Top before reading this and I think it’s a must. You can read this just for the love of his humor, but having the mise en scene fresh in your grey matter will help. I laughed out loud reading this in public several times. I hope Gwen’s read it.

After Hearing Richard Ayoade Describe This Book On The Graham Norton Show I Knew I Had To Read It. Recently I've Been Stuck In A Reading Slump And Needed To Get Out Of It And Ayoade Infamous Dry Wit Has Made Me Urge To Read. I Got This Book On Audible And I'm So Glad I Did. His Little Quips Had Me Laughing So Much I Had To Pause The Audio Book So I Wouldn't Miss Anymore. I Expected The Dry Humour That Makes Me Watch Anything He's On and Commentary From A Rom-Com or Dramadey From The Early 90's, But Other Than That I'm Not Sure What I Expected. I Really Enjoyed It And Recommend To Anyone Who Is A Fan.

I will preface this by saying I really enjoy Richard as a comedian, his work in IT crowd - amazing. Does his comedy necessarily translate in this book? Not significantly. I did listen to an audiobook which I feel boosted this from a one star read. But I have to be fair, when I compare this book to other comedy/non-fiction works it does not sit well amongst the greats. If I'm honest, about half way through this book I kind of wanted to give up and just watch the movie. That is why I have only given it 2 stars and I'm very sorry!

To be honest i only wanted to read this because it was Richard Ayoade.

Had no real expectations other then a good laugh going into this, and i wasn’t disappointed. Although the story was all over the place at times it was very interesting and has me wondering if i should actually watch the movie this book was discussing.

If you get Ayoade's sense of humour (like, know more about him then just the IT crowd and panel shows) and if you are a massive film buff then you will find this book brilliantly funny.

Maybe a 3-star book in a different context, but as a distraction from COVID-19 self-isolation, at least a 4-star. I listened to the audiobook while taking my daily walks, and Richard Ayoade's soothing narration lowered my stress level and made me laugh a few times.

The subject matter is incredibly stupid, but I was predisposed to enjoy this because I already knew I like Ayoade's sense of humor. This probably isn't the place to start if you're unfamiliar with his style.
