I had wanted to read Kitchen for a long time, and the book is beautiful, indeed. This edition, recently released in Portuguese, translated by three translators and with cover and back cover photos by Tokuko Ushioda, envelops us in Banana Yoshimoto's sweet and melancholic writing, which explores grief, unity, and new beginnings. Yoshimoto embraces the processes of self-discovery in each of the stages of loss that the characters experience. It is interesting how she manages to translate into words, so delicately, feelings that I never knew how to describe.

to describe affection in different way of views is a tricky approach, but yoshimoto has succeeded on delivering how people make place and how place makes people, so called sense of place -at the end comes to placemaking, (in the main story called kitchen). and the rest chapters are touching (but not left impression as deep as the main one). very first bought japanese literature, to restart off my reading routine, rescale my scope of focus and attention span.
