My first Clayborn!

I really enjoyed the first half of this book, but for me, the second half dragged on. I’m chalking it up to a rough reading season as this is the first book I’ve finished in a few weeks because there’s no reason I can think of why this isn’t a 5 star book for me. Maybe this just wasn’t what I was wanting to read? I’m not sure but I’m diving into the next book with high hopes because Zoe seems like my favorite type of heroine! Definitely read this one, I’m sure it’s going to be a 5 star read for many of you even if it wasn’t for me!

Beginner's Luck was such a fun nice romance read! And nice in a good way. The word nice does not get enough appreciation when it comes to books because this was a light easy read that just had me smiling by the end (once we got past the bit where I was shouting use your words at the MCs).

Kit is a woman who is pretty against gambling, yet somehow she and her friends end up winning the littery together. That actually has very little to do with the plot of the book as a whole apart from the fact it means she gets to buy her dream house which requires a whole heap of work. She doesn't quit her job (which is crazy to me because I would be out of there so fast you wouldn't even know) but the woman loves her job. She is a scientist, I mean there's more to it than that but honestly, scientist covers the essential stuff you need to know. She is getting recruited to work for a big corporation she has no interest in but luckily for her, a very good looking man is recruiting her and it's easier to listen to someone when they're easy on the eyes (and then promptly reject them because she is so not interested).

Who is the recruiter I hear you cry? Well, that is the lovely Ben Tucker who is home to care for his dad and work at the family scrapyard whilst his dad recovers. He also recruits for the company who wants to hire Kit and boy is he surprised by who he finds when he goes to try it. It doesn't go well but of course, the two see each other again. He helps her with her house repairs and it's all kinds of swoony from there. Honest to god, swooning galore, these two are adorable together. They have a few stumbles along the way (because of the aforementioned period of me yelling use your words at the book) but despite the miscommunication drama which had me wanting to rip my hair out it is honestly such a wonderful read of a woman who is awesome female friendship and a man who is genuinely a good guy helping out his dad and picking up strays along the way.

Seriously, just read it, it's wonderful and I can't wait to start book 2. Luckily it's waiting for me on my Kindle.

Isn't it the best when you find a new to you author and you immediately fall in love? I've been hearing about Kate Clayborn on Twitter for a while now, and I finally picked up the audio for Beginner's Luck on Hoopla (yay libraries) and it sucked me in from the first chapter. Carly Robins and Will Dameron did an exceptional job narrating, completely bringing to life this romance between a head hunter and a materials scientist.

Clayborn's attention to details, the secondary characters, and the EMOTIONS she can bring from writing a glance between the two lovebirds was just, ugh. I die. I did spend a lot of this book yearning for that first kiss, that first lovemaking scene, that happily ever after. Definitely a slow-burn, but not one where the heat was absent. 

I cannot wait to listen to the next books in the series, in fact I checked out Luck of the Draw immediately after finishing this one.

Y'all, I loved Kit and Ben. So. SO MUCH. I adored this book. I was just plain smitten with these characters. A STEM heroine, swoony hero, and slow burn romance — what more do I need? Kate is definitely a new favorite author find. I thoroughly enjoyed this in audio, even if it did take me a little while to get used to the male narrator's voice.
