This was a quick read. I loved the artwork and the color scheme! This is a story of a second chance romance and it’s cute and sweet but also heartbreaking at times. I loved the message that it sends about life being short and living it to the fullest. I’m glad I picked it up.

I have discovered that I'm a sucker for old gays because oh my goodness, this love story made me feel more than a lot of love stories that I've read. Right person wrong time is normally a trope that absolutely kills me, but it was so well done in this story, especially as we watched two people who were the absolute best for each other finally be able to spend time together.

Bingo Love is adorable. It's a love story about two teenage girls who fall in love in the sixties, are kept apart because of homophobia, then are able to reunite much later in their lives. This is a type of story that is rarely told in comics, and it is a pleasure to see racialised women get a love story that lets them be happy in the end. 

While I really did enjoy reading, there are some pretty significant flaws that I hope are addressed as the series moves forward. First, there's a few footnotes telling readers to find out more in external comics. One such situation involves a significant plot point which is enormously frustrating. Please don't make me seek out another book just to find out something that is plot significant to this one! Particularly when said additional book isn't even available yet...

The other criticism I have is one common to graphic novels: you need your story to fit the medium. There are so many characters in Bingo Love as Hazel has a massive family. Unfortunately, there's just no room to really explore any of these characters so their actions and motivations lack concrete reason. They exist as plot points rather than characters. This story should have either been longer or streamlined. That applies to the protagonists as well. Their love story is rushed, and it is hard to see why they love one another when things are moving so fast. I want to settle into their story, not fly through it without getting a chance to really indulge in the warm and fuzzies!

Do these faults make the story unenjoyable? Nope! It's a fun read and will make you smile. But you can see where the creators need some time to grow into their field. Take it slow or simplify. Sure, you might have all these fabulous ideas and character designs, but you want to respect them by using them well. I look forward to more issues, and I really do want to find out more about the stuff mentioned as being in companion books...

No sé, pensaba que me iba a gustar más de lo que al final lo ha hecho. Es una historia muy cuqui, pero muchas veces los diálogos no me parecían nada naturales. La historia tampoco está bien cerrada, es como si se olvidaran de que la prota le estaba contando la historia a su nieta. 

Lo recomiendo para cuando apetece leer algo cortito y cuqui, pero no es nada del otro mundo.

I really wanted to love this. I was looking forward to reading "Jook Joint" by Franklin and saw this first. The art and message are beautiful. The dialogue seemed forced and plot was rushed, however. I really do think if they would have expanded the story, I would have enjoyed it more.

An absolutely adorable yet heartbreaking story.

We follow Hazel as she grows closer to the new girl in town, Mari. But Mari is taken from Hazel when they’re seen kissing. After years, they’re finally able to reconnect.

Firstly, the art style was so adorable and sweet. It was also very colourful and fit the 60s vibe.

Mari and Hazel were so wonderful together and through everything I’m so glad they found one another again.

My main critique is that I wish it could’ve been longer. I think this would’ve solved my issues with the character development as well as the rushed feeling the whole story had. I just think it would’ve been a lot better if we got to see more of relationship as it felt quite choppy.

The ending was what really made this story for me. It’s just so painful as you know that it’s the inevitable but it was such a hopeful and sweet ending.

All in all, I’d highly recommend if you’re looking for a sweet f/f comic spanning decades.

I really need to stop reading books that make me cry while on lunch at work! I also wasn't expecting the tears from this super sweet story of two women who fall in love as young girls, are told they are abominations for their love, torn apart, but reconnect many years later as grandmothers.

I adored the bright and engaging illustrations but found the font to sometimes be just a *bit* too large. The dialog was also a little clunky and a little "tell-y" which is explained by the format of one of the character's telling someone her love story, but overall what a delight. Just have some tissues ready.

This was quite possibly the cutest but most emotional graphic novel I've read in a while. The story was sweet but heart breaking and I felt so much for the women 💔 and I'm not ashamed to admit I did shed a tear at the end 😢
