Ted Dekker

BoneMan's Daughters

I have read the book and listened to the audiobook. I would strongly recommend the audiobook as I think narrator does a great job. All in all, it is an OK book. Sort of forgettable but by no means bad.

The concept of the Boneman. The brutality, the horror, all of that is very intriguing to me. 

POVs. I think that Dekker does a good job at giving each POV character a distinct voice whereas some POVs feel like the same character in a different suit, this book did a good job at giving each a distinct 'voice' and style. 

Some interesting moral debates/questions. Without getting into spoilers, I feel like there was some interesting ideas here about morality/war/etc. Would you kill an innocent person to save someone you cared about? Are you justified in that?

I don't really care for any of the characters. Our main lead, Ryan, is supposedly a highly intelligent naval officer but it is hard to believe sometimes when he acts erratically when his whole schtick is that he's composed under pressure. The women, Celine and Bethany, are also shafted as characters. Celine (Ryan's estranged wife) is written to be bitchy, whiny and self centered, when I think there could have been more nuisance to her character. Bethany might be a little better written, but is kind of inconsistently written.

Lack of consequences. Don't want to get into spoilers but a lot of things just happen and there's no damages as a result. There's build up with no payoff.

What I Liked

Miralis Davis

Such a perfect spooky season read!!! This book had me on the edge of my seat. Who doesn't love a serial killer book with suspense and twist in the plot!!! Definitely worth the read!

Sasha Mann

Opening chapters give us a bit of an introduction and I sight to the characters we will be getting to know throughout this story. Ryan has abandoned his family in a sense and his daughter is still hurt from it even at 16 years of age. 
We find out that a man convicted of murder might be released. He is a supposed killer but a small technicality might set him free. Some excellent drama going on with Ryan's return home. Story seems to be taking a bit of a slow approach to getting things going. We get some great sinister insight as we are introduced to BoneMan and get to read how he interacts and thinks. Things are starting to now ramp.up more into thriller territory with the missing of another girl. This time of Ryan's own daughter 
A bit annoyed with how Ryan's character is asking. Not exactly playing it smart and that was frustrating to read.
A truly grimace worthy scene that had me shuddering. Am quite pleased that the author was able to evoke such a reaction from me. There are several well written tense scenes that had me eagerly turning the page to reach their conclusions.
