Bran Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ is one of the worlds most known stories, perhaps even especially to those who have never read it. Much of supernatural thriller pulls this story in its inspiration. This book set standards, and it is quite easy to tell why. The journalistic method of story telling, though I personally do not love it, gives suspense and conveys the personal feelings of the poor souls in the story well. The eerie setting and unsettling prose kept me on edge within its pages. 

My notes are few beyond the journal entry writing style. It seemed that there was no grey in the characters. There were the damned soul who were bad through and through and the good guys, who even the unbelieving among them held holy qualities, them even being likened to Jesus. The only character without both foot firmly planted on either side was a madman who ate flies. A small complaint is the length. As with any classic, you expect for there to be chunks of the story which appeal to a reader which no longer lives. Our characters kept being thwarted over and over so that their final trial may be at the last possible moment. I understand it, and the dramatics shone through, but there were so many repetitions of near-wins.

This book is phenomenal in the fall along with a creepy instrumentals playlist. I recommend for lovers of paranormal thriller, however those who do not like phonetic writing (‘ello guv’na) should steer clear.
