Ik ben erg positief verrast door dit boek! Hoewel ik heel lang over het tweede boek heb gedaan heb ik deze razend snel uitgelezen. Ik was daadwerkelijk verrast door sommige plottwisten in dit boek. Ik ben benieuwd hoe deze serie gaat eindigen want zit er midden in.

I had to read this book in english and jesus fucking christ it felt like a writer from the ‘800 had written it… the sentence structure had no reason to be this complicated.

the start felt a bit stiff, but that’s because there were a few things to be done that delayed the start of the battle and seemed futile. 

nonetheless, this book has nothing less than the previous two: i finally see the reason why roran’s point of view was added (although it took one book and a half to actually not find it annoying when his POV appeared :)), and eragon seemed to have gained a bit of character. 

I unfortunately had spoiled myself some things about this book, but the revelation (!!!) was emotional anyway.

Some amazing quotes. Really funny at times. And you get new important information. 

But it also was too long in my opinion. Some chapters had no reason to be that long 😂. Too much explaining of things that don’t really need to be explained :).  But I also understand that’s a choice of the author and it was probably really fun to write!

There are no words. After over a week reading the whole Inheritance Cycle series and coming to an end without a final book is brutal. 
I could praise the series, but I won't, I'll just tell you read the books and join my in this magical world. 
The Inheritance Cycle has covered every aspect a good book should have and more, my only warning is: it's highly addictive and it still does not have an ending!

Below is mostly my review posted on Eldest and Eragon with some rehashing/added stuff...

So this is my second time reading Brisingr, (Eragon, Eragon/Eldest, Eragon/Eldest/Brisingr...) this being my first time listening to the audiobook. To put it simply, Gerard Doyle is fantastic. His character voices and narration fit perfectly, and I loved the job he did. I'm actually going to continue on with Inheritance now because he does them all. 

I obviously fell off for some years seeing that Inheritance was released 9 years ago, but what can you do...

I'm sure there's a hundred reviews on here talking about how this all started when Paolini was fifteen, and how at the time of Brisingr, he had spent a decade with Eragon, so I'll just say--WOW.

He takes so many things from others (in terms of influence) and handles them all so delicately that he created this wonderful, lush, dense lore that continues to grow throughout the rest of the novels. He was like a mini-Tolkien with his languages and flushed out geographic ideas. He created the Urgals and Kull instead of just recycling the typical Orcs and Uruk-hai. I found multiple points of similarity between Martin's 'Game of Thrones' dragons and Paolini's, and yet past those he once again branched off and created his own world and lore for them in a refreshing way. I think the training and wiseness from Brom most similarly matches the ideas of Obi-Wan and Luke Skywalker, including the necessary death of a mentor/father figure that thus propels the main character towards greatness. I suppose you could also easily argue that it is also like Gandalf/Frodo, however I think it's a harder argument to make that Frodo actually grew based off lessons from a knowledgable mentor (HE IS A HERO, JUST A DIFFERENT KIND!). Or, you could also point out Harry/Dumbledore--I'm sure we've all seen the memes about needing an old man mentor and a young hero to make a successful series--even though Dumbledore hid questionable important details from Harry, he still fulfilled that role. 

I actually read a bitter sounding review under Eldest on here where they claim the opposite of what I am saying--ie. that Paolini does not do any of these things delicately/well and all I can say is that I'm genuinely surprised by that reaction. The main complaint I saw was drawing a comparison to Star Wars and almost calling these similarities blatant stealing. IE. "I am your father [Morzan]." And also saying that the reemergence of the twins and Murtagh was stupid/not earned. All I can say is that 1. I am a HUGE SW fan, as you can obviously see in my read books section, and I think that if your basis for disliking this book/series/author is that you think SW is the end-all for original ideas, you're just misguided. I mean right off the bat, just read Dune and see how many things are super close to some of the original SW ideas in A New Hope... 2. I have now read this book three times and each time I have loved the "surprise" of Murtagh coming back. Every single time. Sure, I also thought he was alive, but riding atop a new RED DRAGON? No, that hadn't crossed my younger mind at all. 3. If you dislike reading things that have any kind of similarities at all, I'm sorry to inform you but fantasy is not the genre for you at all. Find me something that doesn't pull strings from Tolkien, Lewis, Herbert, Martin and many others. I don't believe it can be done. Those similarities are the reasons WHY I love these kinds of books and genre. Originality would come at a cost. Probably the cost of that comfortability many look for in fantasy and that wouldn't work for me and many others. 

I'm sure there are also countless ideas and influences that he drew from the million and one dragon rider series that exist in this world. However, I first started reading these books in the sixth grade, so as an eleven year old I hadn't much experience elsewhere, and afterwards this was more my basis for that kind of story than any other. 

I know we've all seen/heard Paolini say things like "trying to write like Tolkien at his best" and various other stupid and pompous sounding things, but he was young and humility doesn't come easy for everyone. He had great success with these books at an early age, that could certainly do that to your head. And to be honest, it'd have been better for someone else to have said that for him, but I don't really disagree with it. I even call him a mini-Tolkien at the beginning of this review... (but lets be real...Tolkien was always at his "best")

I will say that I think Paolini is lucky that he had spent so much time working his characters in book two, because honestly without it I would not have given a single f**k about Roran getting married or trying to become a leader. It's because of his earlier work and attention to detail that leads fans to desire more information about other characters and the day to day activities. The trouble with the dwarves even borders on getting too dry and he still (in my opinion) reels it in enough, and splits it with action, to save its enjoyability. 

The world of Alagaesia needs more dragon power. As fans can tell by the cover, Glaedr is the focal point of this one. Even though Oromis and Glaedr have disabilities of their own they still make the decision to enter the fight. I thought this was immediate, and obvious, foreshadowing to their doom. Even though Glaedr should have far exceeded the size and strength of Thorn, there is still a struggle between them. When the tide of battle seems to point in their favor, Galbatorix possesses Murtagh. I understand this was meant to show the power and prowess that they're up against, which is Galbatorix himself, but I still think they should have been able to achieve more in the fight. That was my only major gripe. 

I understand that his writing style, and seemingly his incessant need to write bible length books, is not for everyone, but this has been a 5*/100% novel since the first time I read it. Now after finishing it for my second time I still don't have any real complaints. I love it and not just for the nostalgic feel, it's amazing.

The book could have easily been 300 pages shorter!! Too many pointless details too many substories and only a few chapters dedicated to the actual plot. I don t understand why instead of just tell how the story goes on Paolini saw it fit to comolicate further. The main story is brilliant by itself it doesn t need all the rest. I can say i liked the outcome and of course i will read the fourth book gladly i just hope that the last one ficus on the plot without any unnecessary exposition

it could have been better. to be honest, I was quite annoyed with Roran's storyline, though Nasuada's was quite interesting. and am I the only one who wants at least ONE point of view from Murtagh? I want to know what happens to him rather than just brief glimpses of him wrecking havic because old Galby told him too. argh! hope the fourth one's better.

           This series is getting better and better as it continues. This is the first book so far that gave me a surprising revelation, (that being Brom being Eragons father, must not have been paying enough attention to those clues) I am excited to wrap this series up, and read the novella! I am hoping to hear more about Angela the Herbalist, and see more werecats.

I always feel like this book - despite the information it gives us - dragged on a little. At times, it's even a little boring. However, I get the feeling that the sensory overload is necessary for reading Inheritance so I will save my complaints for when I've read that!

this was better than eldest, but still had some parts that had me bored + wanting it to get on with the interesting parts. i also found out a lot of important information in this book as well as we had a lot more fights and battles! i might be on the unpopular opinion side but i’m not a fan of roran, is that how you spell it (listening to the audiobooks). i’ve just had this feel about him since we were first introduced to his character and he has a “i’m better than you” vibe about him and i get that he fights for his name and all of that but i just personally don’t like him, nor katrina. i still stand by my thought that somethings up with her. she seems suspicious. but honestly at this point, who isn’t a suspicious character lol

Reading a book translated into another language reveals the quality of the book and/or the quality of the translation. Unfortunately for the Inheritance Cycle, it's lowered my opinion of the series. I wasn't enamored with the series when I first read it in English. However, I did think it was a decent, fairly well-written series. Now, I'm leaning more towards the opinion that Paolini tried way too hard to make these books into another Lord of the Rings-esque fantasy world...big name and long lasting.
The plot simply does not move fast enough. The characters fall into roles way too quickly and predictably. The plot is interesting but it takes way too long to really get going and once it does...oops, the books over.
I do still think that it's fairly well-written but it could have been so much better if he hadn't tried so hard. I'll finish the series but hate to say that I'm less of a fan now.

Jurassic Jones

Ce troisième tome de cette saga qui est très chère à mon coeur m'a laissé un peu bizarre après sa lecture. 

Je m'explique, nous avons une bonne partie du livre qui ne fait pas vraiment avancer l'histoire. Je l'ai trouvé lent et parfois même certaines choses pas franchement digne d'intérêt. L'alternance de point de vue entre celui d'Eragon et celui de Roran est bien et permet d'avoir plus de rythme dans la narration. 

Mais on n'avance pas plus dans l'intrigue principale. Sauf dans les 10 derniers chapitres où là on enchaîne révélations sur révélations. Certaines plus attendu que d'autre, il y en a surtout une que je me doutais depuis le début mais ce n'est pas grave. 

J'ai aimé la fin qui est très poignante et pleine d'espoir donc forcément, je suis pressée de savoir comment va finir tout se petit foutoir. 

En bref, ce tome m'a quelques peu déçue et c'est pour ça que je ne lui ai pas mis la note de 5. Mais l'intrigue reste bien, la narration parfaite et les personnages toujours aussi riches et attachants. ❤️
