The architecture of Carme Pinos eludes any classification. Although attentive and responsive to local conditions, it freely transforms the landscape to which it is bound. From the completed school in Morella, to a recent bridge in Petrer, the works Pinos presents in this book reveal her personal approach to architecture. In 1991, after a partnership with Enric Miralles of some nine years, Pinos set up an individual studio and since then has been combining her architectural practice with extensive teaching, lecturing, and participation in many international competition juries. In 1995 she was awarded the Spanish National Architectural Prize for the construction of the boarding school in Morella. In the United States, she served as a visiting professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and has lectured at Columbia University, Harvard University, the Architecture League of New York, and the Parsons School of Design.
