I think at this point Hadley can meet Daisy Calloway. both have fiery heart, strong will to be free. but in the other hand, they have mom who always ghosts their back. and for that, I truly feel bad for Hadley. but, I like how Cadler keeps Hads company and always see her as his world and wants her to be safe. even though the plot is a little bit messy and complex but I enjoyed throughout the book.

Okay so, this book had a lot of potential. Brother's best friend, single dad trope and second chance? Sign me up! But it really disappointed me. 

Maybe some of the problem is that I didn't read the first book in this series and so I didn't already know the characters, but the first 50% of the book almost made me DNF it. Everything was moving too fast, and I really didn't buy into the romance. I know that, this being a second chance story, the characters already have some history, but I really didn't feel it, it was too insta-lovey.
Once I got past that, the second half of this book was much more enjoyable (thus being a 3 star and not a 2 star), although I still felt a bit meh about the romance. Everytime they declared their love to each other they used very cringey phrases that were really hard to read. 

The twins definitely were the best part of the book. Most of the characters were ok, but Hadley's mother was just unbearable though. Also, there's this dude called Evan that I think made no sense. He had no purpose, he was some douche that appeared 3 times, and in the end we learn that he's not a good person, but... what's the point? He had no impact in the story, I really did not care for whatever problems he caused or tried to cause in the story.

At the same time, the mistery of the book, the whole conflict, was not really a mistery. I knew who the person was from the beginning. 

Basically, this was very very average, and I'm not sure I'll read another book in this series.

Loved this book! Single dad & brother’s best friend are two of my favorite tropes, so I always love when a book has both.

Hadley has known known Calder for years since he’s best friends with her big brother. When she was younger and felt misunderstood by her family, he was always the friend there to help. After tragedy strikes Calder and his twin daughters, he ends up distancing himself from Hadley and everything changes. Unfortunately, they still have to be around each other all the time because of work and family. 

When Calder finally comes to his senses and realizes he’s been pushing her away for the wrong reasons, he is determined to make a change. As they grow closer again, Hadley starts getting mysterious messages and threats, and Calder is forced to face someone from his past. 

I really enjoyed this book, it had the perfect amount of tension, sweet moments, and mystery to keep me sucked in. Calder is such a great dad and his twin daughters are the cutest. I love how much Hadley cared for them even when it was hard for her to be around him. They have some trust to build back up as friends and as a couple, and even then, they have to figure out who seems determined to ruin them 👀

I think this can be read as a standalone, BUT there are some elements that might be kind of confusing if you haven’t read the first book.
